100 Hour Agenda Update: HR1, Lost in Committee?

9/11After spending too much time tracking down the real time or current status of HR 1 that was sent to committee in the Senate, this is all that was located. This is an excerpt from a January 10, 2007 press release

Now the Committee is drafting legislation to fill in the gaps and implement 9/11 commission recommendations that were never legislated or that have not been fully implemented.
The Committee heard testimony from Mayor Michael Bloomberg of New York, former 9/11 Commission Co-Chairman Lee Hamilton, and former 9/11 Commissioners Slade Gorton and Timothy Roehner, as well as James Thomas, Commissioner of the Connecticut Deparment of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, Chief Joseph C. Carter, President of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, and Mary Fetchet, Founding Director, Voices of September 11, Carie Lemack, Co-Founder and President, Families of September 11, and Carol Ashley, Family Advisory Board Member, Voices of September 11.

Sen LiebermanSpeaker Pelosi

So what the hell has happened since? Again, I point out to Speaker Pelosi that the 100 Hour Agenda was and is a joke. So you passed a list of legislative items in about 100 hours. If the legislation is not acted upon, what’s the point?

Earlier we posted a reminder of HR 2, the minimum wage fiasco, as being incomplete. It has not become law and neither has anything to do with HR 1. So tell us Madam Speaker, where’s the beef?

Update to the update takes notice of an agreement in the Senate HSGA Committee.  It seems the chair and ranking member are pleased that their plan has been adopted by the committee for funding as regards the states and the 9/11 Commission recommendations.  See PR here  However, the characterization that it is lost still remains to be seen until it passes both Houses.  Again, the 100 Hour Agenda is a little misleading.  Ok, it’s a lot misleading.
