110th Congress: Performance Indicator

The HouseWe post a review of the 110th Congress about once per month. This is an extra post based on a recent check visit to LOC’s Thomas database. Since Congress had only six items enacted into law this session as of our last notice, it was eye-catching to see 11 laws instead of 6. Wow, they almost doubled laws passed in less than a month. Ah, but that is just an initial reaction. Upon further review, we are saddened to report these recent additions are not worthy of praise other than they are significant in honoring notable persons, e.g., President Gerald Ford.

We hope no one takes offense at our characterization of the significance of the recent additions to law. To clarify, these resolutions should not require much in the way of politics and should be the few types of legislation that are enacted efficiently. Thus, they should not take long to process.

So our disappointment at the 110th Congress’ poor production in fulfilling their primary task is valid. This review was started mainly due to the Pelosi, et al, advertising campaign as to how quickly this Congress would respond to the American people. No matter your side on any issue, this is not quick response. Of the 100 hour agenda, there is still only one item that has become law.

The roundup is:

The SenateThe only 100 hour agenda to be enacted into law was HR 475, regarding the House Page Board. It was introduced on January16, 2007 and became law on February 2, 2007.

Four bills were basically legislative housekeeping, of which one extended appropriations to keep the boat afloat.

The remaining six bills renamed a park and five post offices to honor notable persons.

The newest additions are posted below. It would be nice if Congress could get more done and done right. It would also be helpful of the executive and judicial branches to help. Not to mention the wildly numerous other government entities that complete the package of what tax dollars pay for and what should be working for every citizen. Your comments on what is a rather simple update post are welcome.
