Romney gets cozy with Lakes Region

Mitt RomneyAnother positive response to a campaign stop by Mitt Romney. With the possibility of some current challenges within the Southern US, like South Carolina, everywhere Romney goes adds to his popularity. With the ’surging’ in the polls over the last few months, members of his campaign warned to expect a bounce or two as usually happens in campaigns after strong success. It appears as though the legitimate warning about campaign reality has not occurred yet.

Rather than make campaign promises that are all too often impossible to provide, Romney again listed his priorities. It is simple to address the hot button issues or major topics of the day as priorities. But avoiding the temptation to promise solutions you may not be able to deliver without Congress is intelligent. The single most important reason to support Mitt Romney is his intelligence and successful history. And it doesn’t hurt that there has been no scandal or ‘baggage’ looming around this candidate.

Romney gets cozy with Lakes Region

By JOHN KOZIOL
jkoziol@citizen.com
“I don’t have answers for all the questions” that might get tossed out during the town meeting, Romney conceded, but he had a list of goals that began with reining in federal spending, reducing the country’s dependence on imported oil, improving schools, providing more access to health care, securing the country’s borders and not rewarding illegal immigration.

New Hampshire Primary Could Be In 2007

New Hampshire Secretary of State Says New Hampshire Primary Could Be In 2007

MANCHESTER, N.H., May 29 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — In an exclusive
interview with Victory NH, New Hampshire’s Secretary of State, Bill
Gardner, suggests how New Hampshire will respond to the latest changes in
the presidential primary calendar:
“We’re absolutely determined to protect our primary, and we will. So if
that means having our primary on a date other than the date the DNC would
like us to, we’re going to have it at a time that does protect the
tradition - even if that means it happens in 2007.”
In his most extensive interview in over 30 years as Secretary of State,
Gardner speaks out on: how New Hampshire became first in the nation, why it
is uniquely qualified to begin the process of picking our presidents, and
what he will do to protect New Hampshire’s tradition.
The interview, exclusive to Victory NH’s new website,
http://www.ProtectOurPrimary.com, kicks off the next phase of their year-long
Protect Our Primary campaign - an effort to educate the candidates, the
media, and the country at large as to why it is in the best interest of all
Americans for New Hampshire to remain first in the nation.
The Protect Our Primary campaign is led by more than 200 “Primary
Defenders” - students from high schools and colleges across New Hampshire,
who regularly engage and enlist the support of presidential candidates for
protecting New Hampshire’s traditional first in the nation role.
ProtectOurPrimary.com currently features hundreds of photos with the
candidates wearing the group’s Protect Our Primary stickers, along with
quotes, commentaries (from Rudy Giuliani and Newt Gingrich), and video
endorsements from the presidential candidates, members of the media, and
former presidents.
“Victory NH is truly honored that Secretary Gardner has both supported
our Protect Our Primary campaign, and has entrusted us with this interview
that we believe will become the common reference point as the ‘primary
debate’ continues to heat up in the months ahead,” said Harry Levine,
Co-Founder of Victory NH. “His help in launching ProtectOurPrimary.com is
certain to bring the efforts of our Primary Defenders to the attention of
the country at large.”

Hillary: ‘When Bill was president’

Posted in Money Matters, wordpress, Politics, campaign, election, Democrats, Clinton, hillary on May 30th, 2007 by Stanford Matthews

Sen Hillary Rodham ClintonSome reports have surfaced alleging Hillary Rodham Clinton’s fund raising sources hold political views at odds with her appeals to the middle class and ordinary citizens. This may be a new version of the Robin Hood philosophy of stealing from the rich and giving it to the poor. Take the money and make the plans with the rich and powerful and campaign for the hearts and minds of the ordinary citizen.

Using phrases like ‘pro-union, trust-busting, progressive movement’ have fooled many people before and apparently there are still plenty of people out there who can be fooled that easily. You can only wonder how challenged these people are when Hillary Rodham Clinton can invoke the name of her husband and refer to his Presidency and still get support. Are these people so hypnotized by their own desire for a savior that Hillary Rodham Clinton can simply utter cliches and anecdotes about a failed Presidential Administration of her ‘husband’ to steal votes from the politically blind?

Again she makes promises she cannot guarantee. Eliminating business tax breaks and oil subsidies will not be done by decree. She must seek changes as every other President, through the Congress. Pandering to the hopes of the poor by promising expanded earned income credit is another promise that is not a foregone conclusion.

Why saying ‘when Bill was President’ is not the political kiss of death for this candidate says a lot about those who support her. They just don’t have a clue.

McCain challenges other candidates on immigration

Sen John McCainSenator John McCain and anyone else in Congress who favors amnesty are simply not listening to the American public. His ludicrous call for a better alternative has one big flaw. He refuses to listen to any suggestion of removing illegals from the United States. Those opposed to removing illegals use the invalid argument that it cannot be done. That is simply a refusal to accept it. They refuse to accept it because they do not want to do it.

Allowing millions of illegals to remain in this country is wrong. Abandoning the rule of law when millions of people violate it only encourages more violations and more laws being ignored. To eliminate these immigration problems the illegals must be held accountable by leaving the country. If they then wish to immigrate they must do it the legal way. No one should benefit from violating the law.

Perhaps Senator McCain is proving he will do just about anything to pursue the Office of President of the United States. Including allowing millions of people to break the law and then help them get away with it. Does that make him equally guilty as the illegals?

Romney Likes Democrats

Posted in wordpress, campaign, romney on May 29th, 2007 by Stanford Matthews

Mitt RomneyWhy should it be such a surprise that Romney could say he likes Democrats. This is a man who knows how to get it done. He did it in the land of Democrats. Having an understanding that we all need to work together is not so strange. Sure, there are items on which we cannot agree. But to hold hard and fast on topics on which we disagree should not prevent people from working together on things they can. Why do you think this man is as successful as he is. It is not from being stubborn enough not to take advantage of compromise that does not sacrifice principle.

LACONIA, N.H. — Last week, Mitt Romney began airing a new TV ad touting his conservative successes in what he calls the “toughest” of environments: Massachusetts, the largely Democratic state he led for four years. The first frames of the ad display grainy images of the Republicans’ stock Bay State bogeymen — Kennedy, Kerry, and Dukakis.

Some Guatemalans Loaf in U.S. Cash Flow

Posted in Terrorism, wordpress, Immigration, Tancredo, United States, Border Control, Bill Richardson on May 29th, 2007 by Stanford Matthews

Deport IllegalsAnother one of those perfect stories which only strengthens the position that amnesty is ridiculous. If not solely due to a need to enforce the rule of law, the money game that is immigration scoffs at the hypocrisy of altruism in the melting pot. Perhaps the 200 per month refused by young Guatemalans would be seen differently when compared to the cost of living in the country where it is offered. Again, the question of what is Mexico or Guatemala or other countries doing to solve their own problems and reduce the flow of traffic to the US? The answer is most likely their governments are no more responsive than ours to the will of the citizens.

The US may some day be just like the countries from which the illegals now flow. That’s right. Continuing to allow the bleeding hearts and paid for politicians to allow some to get rich at the expense of everyone else will damage this nation. We again urge the public to flood Congressional and White House offices with phone calls and email or snail mail until they understand what is needed. 2 out of 3 Americans want illegals deported. Secure the borders and severely punish employers and this problem will fix itself.

Some Guatemalans Loaf in U.S. Cash Flow

SALCAJA, Guatemala - Working and going to school have become optional in this highland Guatemalan town, thanks to a flood of U.S. dollars sent home by migrants living in the United States.

The family-run mills that produce brightly colored, hand-woven traditional fabrics have fallen quiet as their potential work force _ mostly young men _ hang out at the town’s pool halls or video game salons, living off remittances and waiting to make their own journeys north.

Romney pledges salary to charity if elected president

Posted in Money Matters, wordpress, campaign, election, romney on May 29th, 2007 by Stanford Matthews

Mitt RomneySo the first thing someone will comment on is that this is no big deal with all the money he makes. Or he’s only doing it for tax considerations. I don’t care what anyone says. It is a simple matter of he doesn’t have to and it is merely a reasonable gesture which will be criticized. You have to expect that in politics and campaigns. But the style points are real.

Since all the Democratic candidates are jumping on the health care bandwagon and there are no poverty-stricken candidates, they will all start donating the salary or attacking Romney for the gesture. My guess is he already thought of that and expects such childishness.

During a question-and-answer session with Liberty Mutual employees, Romney said that despite his personal wealth - his assets likely will total $190 million to $250 million - he has committed himself to public service, from head of the 2002 Winter Olympics to one-term governor of Massachusetts.

Romney Criticized for Mormon Faith in NH

Posted in wordpress, campaign, election, conservative, liberal, Clinton, ethics, romney on May 29th, 2007 by Stanford Matthews

Mitt RomneyLeave it to a crazed liberal to feel good about voting for Clinton and exclaim he won’t be voting for a Republican. In a land of religious freedom, one liberal voter displays his criteria for selecting a candidate. But it explains much more than that. An example of a liberal who will ignore the superior record of a candidate based on some self-righteous belief that no matter what, a flawed Hillary Rodham Clinton is his preferred choice over a conservative candidate that by definition opposes his liberal philosophy. Even if Romney is the better candidate, a flawed liberal will vote for a flawed liberal. If there is any logic in there, must be birds of a feather tendencies.

Obama Calls for Universal Health Care

Posted in Health, wordpress, Politics, campaign, election, Democrats, obama on May 29th, 2007 by Stanford Matthews

Sen Barack ObamaEalier in the campaign, John Edwards hopped on the typical universal health care bandwagon. It came not long after his Marcotte/McEwan fiasco. Health care is seen as a common topic to deflect criticism as well as an attempt to appear concerned. Just last week Hillary Care was a new campaign slogan in the headlines. Well let’s not have Barack Obama omitted from this fine ethical pursuit. More empty promises from the left side of the equation are completely missing the point. Everyone will pay for this so everyone can be covered. Is there supposed to be some enlightening wisdom in these proclamations? The health care system is not unlike many aspects of American life these days. It is entirely flawed and needs honest solutions. A basic need in life is being controlled by the greedy and unnecessary. Nothing happens until we all admit that.

Another useless campaign item gains favor with Democratic candidates.

America Didn’t Choose Surrender

Posted in Bush, Terrorism, Iraq, war, wordpress, Immigration, Afghanistan, America, United States, Law, Justice, Congress, Border Control, Legislation, Military on May 29th, 2007 by Stanford Matthews

It is looking like a well-known fact or common knowledge that one falsehood preached by the Democratic majority has been shown the light of day. The midterms were not about ending the war. The midterms were a measure of the public’s frustration about ineffective government. That includes unscrupulous politicians, the danger of lobbyists, the inability to get things done and all other common complaints that elected representatives have difficulty hearing.

After the losses for the GOP resulted in the Democrats gaining the majority, we now have Congress with a lower approval rating than the President. 2008 may just be more ‘throw the bums out’ exercises and all the posturing of late will bear no fruit for stubborn politicians. Sure most Americans want the war to end. But who said anything about accepting surrender. Just like 2 out of 3 Americans want illegals deported, Americans want victory in Iraq. It would be helpful if Congress and the President would finally understand this and do the right things.
