Richardson Gives Strong Debate Performance?

Richardson for President, Inc.
June 28, 2007
WASHINGTON, D.C. — At tonight’s Democratic Presidential debate moderated by Tavis Smiley, Governor Bill Richardson showed again that he is the candidate with the boldest vision and the strongest record to lead America forward. This was the first Democratic Presidential debate that the important issue of education was specifically discussed by each of the Presidential candidates and in Richardson’s response he made it clear that as President he would make it a priority.
from MoreWhat.com:
‘Richardson Gives Strong Debate Performance at PBS Debate in Washington, DC’ is what you say?
Not if you listened to Shields and Lowry on the day following this press release. Imagine that. The ‘debate’ was on PBS and so are Shields and Lowry. There impression was unfortunately that Hillary Rodham Clinton turned in the best performance. And that it wasn’t a debate, more like a group press conference but that is not a direct quote but the meaning is the same.
The upside on the Hillary Rodham Clinton appraisal is that it wasn’t a debate and it was more like a speech or press conference and that is why scripted HRC was in her element and ‘appearing’ better than the others. She is good at presenting scripted campaign messages that alone are worthless.

Bill Richardson on the Senate Immigration Bill
Posted in Public Affairs, Terrorism, wordpress, Politics, campaign, election, Immigration, Tancredo, United States, Law, Justice, Border Control, Legislation, Bill Richardson on June 30th, 2007 by Stanford Matthews
June 28, 2007
SANTA FE, NM — Democratic Presidential candidate Governor Bill Richardson released the following statement today on the failure of the Senate to push the immigration bill forward:
“I am deeply disappointed. You can’t solve a problem by ignoring it. We have got to find a way to bridge the divide and bring people together to address the critical problems facing our nation — immigration, energy, healthcare, education.
“This is the price America pays for divisive leadership. Congress should continue to work on passing immigration reform.”
Paid for by Richardson for President, Inc.
from MoreWhat.com:
You’re disappointed? And who ignored the problem? Possibly the single largest public response to legislation on both sides of the issue since the seventies. Being unable to reach agreement for a legislative solution is not ignoring the problem. After the ‘holiday’ recess and no further action you can call it ignoring the problem. Bridge the divide? You don’t seriously expect to find consensus on this issue, do you? This is one of those we win, you lose contests, genius. The idea being illegals need to remove themselves from this country or have it done for them. You’ll bring people together in their countries of origin as well as Americans in this country once that is done. Other suggestions merely cater to business greed disguised as an economic problem.

Senate No Amnesty Scorecard: 2nd runners up
Posted in Public Affairs, Terrorism, wordpress, Politics, GOP, Democrats, Immigration, Tancredo, United States, Law, Justice, Congress, Border Control, Legislation on June 30th, 2007 by Stanford MatthewsIf you did not have an opportunity to read the first post on the Senate No Amnesty Scorecard it is back a few posts and the following two paragraphs are from its opening to provide a review.
In a continuing series of posts on the GOP 24 some alterations and adjustments have been made based on events of the last couple of days. The GOP 24 should have been at least the GOP 27 with the information that was available at first. With the recent defeat of cloture on S.1639 in Roll Call Vote 235, a simple analysis was done here.
There were two bills for amnesty in the Senate this month. The first was S.1348, the famous back room deal between the Bush White House and primarily Senators Kyl, Kennedy, McCain and Reid. President Bush and these Senators as well as many others are in favor of amnesty for millions of illegal aliens. The bill they offered reflected that desire. The desire to abandon the rule of law and increase the risk to the United States with reckless legislation for political gain.
There has been a post on the 1st runners up so take a look back if you haven’t read it. This is the post for the 2nd runners up. After the strong first group in the scorecard the others are only referred to as runners up. There is no second or third place, etc., and then runners up. You either took a strong position or unnecessary risks. While some slack can be cut for the risk takers in that they may have intended to vote to consider and then debate, the risk of exposing the fight on illegal immigration and security to a full vote for passage on either measure was a mistake since no amount of fiddling with the language would have cured the ills of either piece of legislation. And if the vote to consider was purely political, the effect was equally disappointing. But the luck of the draw saves them from serious criticism as their second votes on each cloture group aided defeat of the bills. So here is the 2nd runners up list.
(R-MO) Bond
(R-KS) Brownback
(R-NC) Burr
(R-MN) Coleman
(R-ME) Collins
(R-NM) Domenici
(R-NV) Ensign
(R-KY) McConnell
(R-AK) Murkowski
(D-AR) Pryor
(R-AK) Stevens
(R-OH) Voinovich
(R-VA) Warner
(D-VA) Webb
Some may have intended passage of one bill or the other and that would be unfortunate and disappointing. Then there is the confusion these votes bring in terms of previously stated positions like that of Bond from Missouri. He claims opposition to amnesty yet did not make a higher list like McCaskill who provided a stronger vote in this battle. McConnell is the GOP minority leader and should know better. He should have been in the winners list. You get the idea. But at least these Senators are not in the upcoming _ _ _ _ lists on illegal immigration and security. And again, there are representatives from both parties on this list. A promising trend for the word bipartisan although it may still be a code word for ‘we are in trouble either way so let’s plan a vote to save us politically’ strategy.
Since the votes, we still need to pressure Congress and the executive branch on enforcement since they now appear to be planning to table everything until the 2008 elections are completed. That is not a good thing and may lessen the positive signs from this Congressional performance.

NEW YORK, June 26 /PRNewswire/ — Chandler Chicco, a full-service, global healthcare public relations firm, announced its acquisition by inVentiv Health (NASDAQ: VTIV) , the leading provider of commercialization and complementary services to the global pharmaceutical and life sciences industries. AdMedia Partners (http://www.admediapartners.com/), a New York financial advisory firm specializing in mergers and acquisitions to the advertising and marketing services, media, and related interactive, online and information services businesses, represented Chandler Chicco in the acquisition.
“This transaction serves to show that public relations and public affairs are crucial components of healthcare communications to healthcare professionals, consumers and regulatory bodies,” says Phil Palazzo, a Managing Director at AdMedia Partners. “In 12 years Chandler Chicco has become the leader in healthcare communications, working on complex products and campaigns for many of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies.”
Earlier today, inVentiv Health, Inc. announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Chandler Chicco Agency (CCA), the world’s largest privately-held healthcare public relations firm. CCA will operate within the inVentiv Communications division, which provides a full suite of integrated healthcare marketing and communications solutions.
Under the terms of the agreement, inVentiv will acquire CCA for $65 million in cash and stock, plus earn-out payments for exceeding specified financial targets. The transaction, which is subject to receipt of Hart-Scott-Rodino approval and other customary closing conditions, is expected to close in the third quarter. The acquisition is expected to be immediately accretive to inVentiv’s earnings.
Chandler Chicco Agency is a full-service, global healthcare public relations firm. Founded in 1995 by healthcare public relations veterans Robert Chandler and Gianfranco Chicco, CCA provides clients with insight-driven communications strategies that — through innovative and powerful programs — build, enhance or protect brand value and further public affairs agendas. The company’s client roster includes many of the world’s top pharmaceutical companies including Allergan, GlaxoSmithKline, and Novartis. For CCA, 2007 has been a banner year winning multiple awards — two awards from PR Week, Midsize Agency of the Year and Agency of the Year, and two awards from the Holmes Report, Specialty Agency of the Year and Healthcare Agency of the Year.
“In today’s competitive marketplace, our pharmaceutical clients are increasingly turning to public relations to build awareness, credibility and loyalty for their products,” said Eran Broshy, Chairman and CEO of inVentiv Health. “Chandler Chicco Agency has established an unmatched reputation in the healthcare PR industry that is distinguished by solid long-term client relationships and an impressive history of growth. Adding CCA to our portfolio of services will significantly expand our PR offering, while also broadening our global capabilities.”
CCA principal and co-founder Robert Chandler said, “Our successes over the past 12 years have been unprecedented and the next 12 will be, too, because we’re putting into place a smart global growth strategy that will lead us to even greater achievement.”
“This partnership allows us to scale up globally at warp speed and with greater authority, while maintaining our culture of success,” added Gianfranco Chicco, co-founder and CCA principal. “It is an ideal partnership.”
Upon the close of the transaction, CCA will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of inVentiv Health and operate within the inVentiv Communications division. The CCA brand and all the other brands that are part of the Chandler Chicco Companies, including Biosector2, BrandTectonics, CCA Advertising, Determinus, Litmus and ‘nition will remain, and Robert Chandler and Gianfranco Chicco will continue to lead the business, reporting into William O’Donnell, President and COO of inVentiv Communications.

Senate No Amnesty Scorecard: 1st Runners Up
Posted in Terrorism, wordpress, Politics, GOP, Democrats, Immigration, Tancredo, United States, Law, Justice, Congress, Border Control, Legislation on June 29th, 2007 by Stanford Matthews
If you did not have an opportunity to read the first post on the Senate No Amnesty Scorecard it is a couple of posts back and the following two paragraphs are from its opening to provide a review.
So the first post on the Amnesty Scorecard featured those Senators who voted no on both amnesty bills meaning they cast no votes on each pair of cloture votes. You could conclude they understood that considering the bill at all may lead to the bill’s passage and in any event there was no reason to debate the bills. The reason being the bills were so flawed and an obvious ploy to provide amnesty for millions of law breakers that no amendments would be able to rectify that.
The first runners up are a mixed group of Republicans and Democrats whose intent may have been to consider and debate the first measure, S.1348, in an attempt to correct its flaws even at the risk of voting on it for passage. Fortunately, after Sinister Harry Reid exposed his intent to control debate or lack of it and stack the deck for passage of amnesty, these same Senators voted against cloture in the 2nd vote and killed the bill. Quickly, Sinister Harry Reid withdrew the bill and introduced a clone for a subsequent attempt to force his wishes on an American public which had clearly expressed opposition to the bill.
Here are the first runner up winners in the Senate No Amnesty Scorecard:
(R-TN) Alexander
(R-GA) Chambliss
(R-MS) Cochran
(R-IA) Grassley
(R-UT) Hatch
(R-GA) Isakson
(D-LA) Landrieu
(D-MO) McCaskill
(D-WV) Rockefeller
(R-OR) Smith
(D-MI) Stabenow
Most of the Senators here had previously expressed opposition ot amnesty or at least the two bills presented by Reid. They all may have done that but confirmation of that was not available here at the time of this post. Regardless, an expression of thanks is owed to all of the above for being instrumental in voting no on each of the two clotures that would have brought each bill up for a vote on passage. Thank you Senators, one and all. Even though it is impossible to know their exact intentions, that is the beauty of voting records. The fact remains at least two of their four cloture votes avoided the possibility that this legislation could pass.

Hillary Rodham Clinton: Foolin’ the Masses

Obama to Pass Clinton in Money Raised, Her Aide Says
Eager to cast its fundraising total for the second quarter in a positive light, the presidential campaign of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) said it expects to report raising less than Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), taking in about $27 million, roughly equivalent to what Clinton drew in the first…
Possibly more interesting than the fact the Queen of Cringe’s campaign announced she will be outdone in fund raising by the Obama campaign this quarter is the fact her Communications Director’s top resume item is crisis management. And it is funny that the Dems will not debate on Fox yet Howard Wolfson’s association with The Glover Park Group featured NewsCorp as a client. You know, Rupert Murdoch, NewsCorp, Fox News, Fox Broadcasting, etc. And the connections to Rupert Murdoch are just the beginning of Hillary Rodham Clintons’s contradiction in alliances. Glover Park Group has much to do with that.
Her Communications Director, Howard Wolfson, a New York native who started in politics working for his hometown Congresswoman Nita Lowey. He has worked for Chuck Schumer and Hillary Rodham Clinton before as well as the DCCC. But HRC’s association with Glover Park and the firm’s history in politics and business runs counter to Hillary Rodham Clinton’s contrived image, liberal appeal and strengthen claims of her dark side.
“She’s got a deeper bench of big money and corporate supporters than her competitors,” says Eli Attie, a former speechwriter to Vice President Al Gore. Not only is Hillary more reliant on large donations and corporate money than her Democratic rivals, but advisers in her inner circle are closely affiliated with unionbusters, GOP operatives, conservative media and other Democratic Party antagonists.
Dick Morris introduced the Clinton’s to a couple of pollsters named Doug Schoen and Mark Penn. Their firm, PSB, introduced to consulting the concept of “inoculation”: shielding corporations from scandal through clever advertising and marketing. Hillary Rodham Clinton has been associated with them ever since. But even Al Gore would not risk a continued relationship with Penn. He didn’t trust him and fired him during the 2000 campaign.
It is not that much different with Wolfson and principles and Hillary’s indifference to them. Glover Park’s clients have included standard liberal groups like the United Federation of Teachers and the ACLU. Yet the Clinton ties have also helped the firm make an alliance with Rupert Murdoch. Hillary started cozying up to Murdoch after her 2000 Senate victory, in a calculated attempt to defang his conservative media empire, News Corp. In 2004 the billionaire required a favor of his own: Nielsen was preparing to change the way it measured viewership in US TV markets, a plan that Murdoch’s Fox network feared would cost it millions in ad revenue. So Murdoch called on Glover Park. Wolfson secured a $200,000 contract and unveiled a PR blitz under the guise of a supposedly independent minority front group called Don’t Count Us Out.
The typical opposition research and tactics are not unfamiliar to Glover Park, Wolfson or Hillary Rodham Clinton as plenty of ‘bad news’, right or wrong, gets distributed to anyone interested in publishing it. Whether media outlets, bloggers or rivals of the target of the campaign.
The not so subtle predictions that Hillary Rodham Clinton is the default Democratic candidate for 2008 is largely a product of people like Penn and Wolfson or others linked to the Clinton crew. Stay on message, cultivate the middle of the road liberal appearance, speak to the concerns of the Democratic base and lie your way to the White House.

The Senate No Amnesty Scorecard
Posted in wordpress, Immigration, Law, Justice, Congress, Border Control, Legislation, Sen Jeff Sessions on June 29th, 2007 by Stanford MatthewsIn a continuing series of posts on the GOP 24 some alterations and adjustments have been made based on events of the last couple of days.
That bill was defeated but not without much angst and the largest sustained public outrage to visit Washington in years. Respectable Senators with the sense to understand the implications of blanket amnesty and the dangers it posed fought hard to oppose amnesty through its defeat. Only to be faced with yet another legislative assault from Sinister Harry Reid and his liberal camp along with some NERINOs (not even Republican in name only). S.1639 replaced the previous amnesty bill as the Senate ‘leadership’ continued to ignore the public outcry. Hearing opposition to these bills from both sides of the argument should have been sufficient to call off his dogs but Sinister Harry Reid would have none of that.
There were two cloture votes on each bill. The first of each pair was to agree to or reject consideration of each bill. The motion to consider by invoking cloture was agree to on S.1348. The second of the first pair of cloture votes was to limit or close debate and vote on the bill. That cloture bill was defeated and Sinister Harry Reid withdrew the bill. The same thing happened with the clone amnesty bill. The first of two cloture votes passed and the 2nd failed today.
Based on that last paragraph an analysis has been made in an attempt to list the 100 Senators in terms of their actions on these two attempts at amnesty. The following partial list displays the best the Senate has to offer in terms of defeating amnesty for those millions of law breakers known as illegal aliens or illegal immigrants. Here are the ‘good’ Senators.
(R-CO) Allard
(D-MT) Baucus
(R-KY) Bunning
(D-WV) Byrd
(R-OK) Coburn
(R-TN) Corker
(R-TX) Cornyn
(R-ID) Crapo
(R-SC) DeMint
(R-NC) Dole
(D-ND) Dorgan
(R-WY) Enzi
(R-TX) Hutchison
(R-OK) Inhofe
(R-KS) Roberts
(I-VT) Sanders
(R-AL) Sessions
(R-AL) Shelby
(R-NH) Sununu
(D-MT) Tester
(R-WY) Thomas/Barrasso
(R-SD) Thune
(R-LA) Vitter
Coburn, Cornyn, DeMint, Dole, Hutchinson, Inhofe, Sessions, Thomas/Barrasso and Vitter have probably been the most outspoken on opposition to amnesty. Of that group, Cornyn, Dole and Hutchinson have caused some concern with somewhat vague or ambiguous stands on the position. But certainly Sessions and DeMint receive the most credit for steadfast, continuous, loud and clear, determined and sustained outspoken efforts on behalf of all American citizens.
Beyond that the reason these Senators are given highest honors in the amnesty debate is due to their voting record on the four cloture votes. A resounding NO on all four roll calls was submitted by one and all in this group. You might notice that not all of these Senators are Republican. Several Democrats and an Independent are also included.
It is sincerely hoped that none of these Senators will be offended by the description presented. It is the complete opinion of this blog and all responsibility lands here. The intent was to provide some sort of an approval rating for a fine job on behalf of the American people when other ratings given are so poor. That is not to say the other ratings are not justified. It only means when you lump these Senators in with the remainder of the 100, numbers fall.
One last point on the no votes is this. An assumption is being made here that seems valid. Voting no on the first of each pair of cloture votes is a move to not consider the legislation. Voting no again on the 2nd cloture is to not limit debate and deny the opportunity to vote on passage. This move indicates these Senators realized the bills were so flawed that no quantity of amendments could resolve the problems. There was no sense in discussing or voting on passage for bills that were nothing more than amnesty and the minority party controlled the floor.
The first runners up will be in the next post.

This ought to start cranking up that Congressional approval rating. Senator Jeff Sessions may take the prize for unparalleled determination and tenacity fighting the good fight against illegal immigration and the unjust amnesty aimed at illegal aliens by the liberal fringe. Mr Sessions would be the Ted Kennedy antidote.
If everyone who is overwhelmingly satisfied with Senator Sessions work on behalf of all Americans opposed to amnesty would spread the word, Sessions success this month against amnesty may become contagious. We could use more Congressmen doing this fine work. Thanks again, Senator Sessions. There is congratulations to be bestowed on not just Senator Sessions but this post features his press release and we’ll let him steal the show right now.

WASHINGTON—U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) made the following comments today after the U.S. Senate voted 46 – 53 not to invoke cloture on the immigration bill:
“Today’s crushing defeat of the flawed immigration bill is a victory for the American people.
“The Congressional Budget Office found that this legislation would have allowed 8.7 million more illegal aliens in the United States over the next twenty years. We would be squandering a historic opportunity to reform our immigration system if we accepted policies that reduced illegality by only 13 percent. We can and must do better.
“As the public learned more about this immigration legislation, it became clear that the bill did not meet their expectations. The American people overwhelmingly rejected it. Senators heard the voices of their constituents and voted accordingly.
“The vote was also a rejection of the heavy handed procedure employed by the supporters of the legislation. It was not a fair process. I have not seen a more carefully scripted attempt to limit amendments and stifle debate in order to move a piece of legislation through the Senate as was witnessed in this case. Senators saw it for what it was and objected.
“Our nation’s immigration system is broken. I believe that any process to fix that system must start with a real commitment to securing our borders and enforcing our laws. I am pleased to work with President Bush as we move forward with a renewed focus on making our borders secure. It would be an enduring legacy for him if he were to be the first President in nearly 40 years to truly secure our nation’s borders.”
Amnesty Fighters Gather at Senate State Offices

Conservative Thoughts
Just found this press release from ALIPAC and even though it is not a timely presentation in terms of participating in the event it is very useful in analyzing the results in the Senate this morning. It is another example of the strong public opinion against S.1639, its former failed amnesty attempt in the package known as S.1348 and the Senate bill that failed last year as the Senate’s version of HR 4437 from the House in December 2005. HR 4437 passed with overwhelming support in the House. It may have been a political scheme in light of the Senate’s inability to pass any legislation to strengthen border security and immigration control whether a GOP or Democrat majority was present. The outpouring of public outrage over the federal government’s reluctance to promote common sense responses to security challenges may have turned the tide against the liberal amnesty plans being offered in the Senate.
The efforts of groups like ALIPAC, the Coalition Against Illegal Immigration, Blogs for Borders and numerous other advocates for the rule of law may have provided the additional pressure required to defeat amnesty again. But how many more times will this be necessary before Congress and the White House get the message? Some have suggested often that if the current proposals were not accepted there would be no legislation until after the 2008 Presidential election. And further they claim current law is unenforceable. It does not seem to inhibit ICE from performing selective operations that result in rounding up illegals. So which way is it Senators, unenforceable or selective use of existing law? Are you merely trying to appease the public with token enforcement?

June 28, 2007 - The calls, e-mails, and faxes are flying to US Senate offices, while concerned citizens gather at the main state offices of each Senator that voted YES for CLOTURE on Tuesday of this week and they are hoping to send a clear message that a Yes vote on cloture today is a yes vote for Amnesty.
“We know that several Senators are under pressure from the Open Borders Lobby (OBL) to vote Yes on cloture and then no on the bill,” says William Gheen of Americans for Legal Immigration PAC. “Concerned citizens are gathering in their offices this morning to await the cloture vote results and to send a clear message that procedural tricks will not fly with the public back home.”
The Cloture vote is required for the amnesty bill to proceed to a final vote. Sixty votes are needed for cloture while only 50 votes are required for passage. Any Senator that truly wants to stop the amnesty bill will vote No on Cloture. Some Senators are going to try and vote yes on cloture, then no on the bill and then return to their home states to falsely claim they opposed the bill!
“We are looking at a super majority of Americans opposed to this bill,” said William Gheen. “The vast majority of calls to Washington are against this bill, but the Senate is not listening. Citizens gathering in their offices this morning will signal to Senators that they cannot get away from the public wrath if they vote yes on cloture. Today’s vote is the deciding vote!”
ALIPAC and many other national and local organizations have joined together in the effort to send concerned citizens into the 64 offices of those that voted Yes on Tuesday, with special focus on the offices of Barbara Boxer, Richard Burr, Ron Wyden, Bayh and Lugar.
Members of the press are encouraged to join concerned citizens in all 64 offices as they await the results and responce to the cloture vote.

S.1639 Thursday Showdown
Posted in Announcement, wordpress, Immigration, ethics, Law, Justice, Congress, Border Control, Legislation on June 28th, 2007 by Stanford MatthewsWhile watching the Senate this morning, an update on the blog seems in order. A big thanks again to Senator Jeff Sessions. I am writing this while viewing Cspan 2 and Sinister Harry Reid is making me ill. Bear with me as I try to continue.
Senator Sessions and I believe, Senator Vitter from LA and one or two others championed the ‘kill the bill’ position on S.1639. Senator Kyl, Specter and their ilk, Kennedy and Reid are still pushing AMNESTY.
Nothing much seems to have changed although reports all over the news late yesterday and today were indicating this bill is dead. We can only wait and see other than continuing to email the Senate. They announced in the Senate this morning that the Sgt at Arms indicated the phone system was down due to an overload of calls.
The public is telling them to kill the bill but they have hearing problems. At least some of them do. And Obama is the ‘acting’ President today? What a mess.
Keep up the pressure and please excuse this pitiful update but I’m working at a bit of a disadvantage today. I think the amnesty crowd is sabotaging my server.
