Gov Palin on Glenn Beck, June 2008

What is truly amazing about the run up to Governor Sarah Palin being selected as Senator John McCain’s VP stems from the MSM, go figure, and their fever pitched panic to ‘read the tea leaves’ and guess who would be chosen. Pawlenty, Romney and Lieberman were the names most mentioned with the former CEO of Ebay getting honorable mention late in the game.

While reviewing YouTube videos on the topic as well as Google searches, Palin’s name and associated interviews, this one included, speculated on her possibility of being tapped for the VP job. AND THE MSM WAS PLAYING NONE OF IT. Did you see any pundit raise her name during the silly MSM speculation on who would be chosen? The vid offered here is from June 2008 !!!!!!

Gustav / Hanna

Argue the point all you want but there is plenty of evidence readily available, including on the net, to reinforce the idea that there is a long history with NOLA of neglecting the fact that the cereal bowl is a perennial hazard and disaster waiting to happen when hurriicane season arrives.  The majority of blame related to Katrina and other past similar events in New Orleans can be traced to local and state inaction, corruption and failure to choose appropriate measures to maximize protection against such occurences.

The links below indicate that while they may be slow learners Gustav hitting 230 MPH and getting close after the last big soaking ( and that doesn’t refer to all the money spread around after Katrina) some people are taking the news more seriously this time.  But if disaster strikes one can expect a similar reaction after the fact regardless of how it works out.

Obama’s Loose Cannon Staff

Posted in Public Affairs, wordpress, Politics, campaign, election, Biden, Democrats, obama on August 30th, 2008 by Stanford Matthews

Super Barry
Foreign policy wiz Joe Biden and Democratic Messiah Barack Obama may be a fine pairing. Biden is well-known for speaking first and regretting it later. And Barack Obama is developing the same tendency by virtue of the staff he put together. The Presidential candidate often criticized for not having the experience to lead repeatedly makes excuses for his staff’s actions. Most recently they have been guilty of putting words in Obama’s mouth by saying McCain with Palin will take the country in the wrong direction and the GOP pair will be more of the same (referring to President Bush). Obama was quick to offer a lame excuse for the mistake.

Against Clinton, some of the Obama staffers work was noted by Obama as ’stupid and caustic’. Again, against Clinton, Tim Russert asked if Obama staffers were fanning flames of racial tension in the campaign and Obama responded these were things he would not say. The list goes on and on. Does this reinforce the contention that Obama is not ready to lead? A continuous stream of undisciplined actions by his ‘team’ that he must make excuses for will not stand in a Presidential Administration. At least it won’t stand in a successful one. Voters should be concerned that the liberal duo claiming to have the right stuff for foreign policy could risk causing untold harm to the national interest by allowing a loose cannon pair and their staff to apply the same childish antics when dealing on international matters.

For all the defenders of the dynamic duo from the liberal left and all the hype presented during the D convention, the fact remains as evidenced in the article below that Obama and Biden are a couple of rookies when it comes to leading anything resembling a Presidential Administration. How can Barack Obama be expected to be Commander-in-Chief when he is obviously unable to manage a campaign staff?

Obama vs. his staff

Politico.com
Kenneth P. Vogel

Just hours after his campaign issued a first statement yesterday ripping the addition of Sarah Palin to the Republican ticket, Barack Obama backed away from that statement or at least its tone and said that his own campaign had misrepresented him.

Obama often speaks of how important his staffers are to his bid and would be to his administration, and he’s praised them for covering for each others’ mistakes. But in the heat of the campaign, he’s publicly called them out for everything from missing an event to misrepresenting his policy positions to using his office to aid a donor.

MoreWhat Matters: News Briefs

internetFollowing the content listed in most popular news on Google and Yahoo has been a regular occurence here. At first it was disappointing that so much of what made it to the listing were stories with topics that probably shouldn’t rank as high as they did. But that just seemed to indicate a sad trend that ‘clickers’ at these venues concentrated on items that really do not matter. The tabloid type of content was getting the lion’s share of the most popular ratings by click. Again, sad that important issues were being neglected by whatever the demographic was. If one assumed that the readers were a representative slice of the general public the bulk of what they were reading was an even more dismal trend.

But over the months it seems more public affairs issues are being digested if only for a moment. A snapshot of one of this morning’s lists has been reordered below by this blog’s opinion of what matters most.along with a commentary on each. Links are maintained except for those items designated here as useless stories.

News Analysis Choice of Palin Is Bold Move by McCain, With Risks

PalinThe central argument in the NYT piece seems to be that McCain’s VP selection gives ammunition to Obama while diminishing McCain’s criticism that Obama is not ready to lead due to inexperience. Right out of the blocks, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has executive experience and a resume’s considerably more accomplished than Senator Obama’s. No one said you cannot take on the VP slot as it does not lend itself to on the job training. And as for the ability to step in to the Presidency if disaster would strike, how many former VP’s would have been ideal for that contingency? If Palin ends up spending four years as VP she will likely be quite prepared for the Office of President in 2012. Even with the unlikelihood that she would have to take over as President, by then the McCain Adminstration would be in place and the typical resources used by each President would be available to Palin for executing the office. In contrast, nothing about Barack Obama equals that assessment.

Additionally, Mr Hope and Change Obama selected a Washington insider which conflicts with his new everything claims and that McCain is more of the same. It also cnocedes his lack of foreign policy experience which most suggest will be of primary importance to the next President. Like it hasn’t been every year.

Obama campaign buoyed by convention

The report above offers more of the same from the Dems more of the same complaint against McCain/Palin. It also cites a Gallup poll showing an 8 point lead for Obma post-convention. While Obama did a fine job of bolstering his celeb status which has little to do with leading the country, the Rasmussen poll shows the lead to be a mere four points. Just a few days ago it was a dead heat as indicated by just about everyone. It would not be a surprise if the polls reflected dynamic swings over the next few weeks.

obamasSmall Change From Obama

David Broder says it for all those suspicious of Barack Obama. From reminding readers that little is known about the freshman Senator to describing his nomination speech as ordinary and focusing on traditional liberal talking points, the change meister (Obama) has squandered his big moment by making a convincing argument for his opponents that an Obama Administration would offer nothing new.

Michelle Obama: Bringing back the brooch

Ah, the significance of Michelle Obama has materialized. She wears a pin. Let the fashion statements begin. So Dems comparing Barack to JFK will lead to comparisons of Michelle to Jackie? Oh, please.

Obama: An American Dream and a Promise for Change

For those who may have missed the opportunity to drink the liberal Kook-Aid, the above link is for you. All of what the Dems would like you to believe is in this. If any of it were likely the Dems might have something but just like the long awaited Obama nomination speech it is a terrible letdown. Nothing to believe in. Nothing to hope for and nothing will change from the liberal realm.

greek mythsObama turns to Greek columns for support

The celeb strategy is alive and well in the Obama campaign. Wanting to make a connection and comparison between himself and MLK and JFK rather than Ayers and Rezko, Obama opted for the Greek thing. Just another example of smoke and mirrors that appeal to the far left. Could it be they are attracted to fantasy and fiction more than reality and logic?

Unconventional Ratings: Obama’s Speech Draws Record 38 Million Viewers

Just another example that the Obama celeb thing has the capacity to attract those inspired by fads and bells and whistles. To be fair, there is the possibility that those sincerely seeking change may have paid attention. But as reported by Broder in another item above, Obama missed his opportunity to make the case and instead optted for traditional Dems talking points and the party line.

The other items linked below are secondary in importance. The report on Russia is another reminder that cold war sentiments may resurface. The mention of Gustav and threats to the Gulf Coast remind that NOLA is still the only part of the area that will get the bulk of coverage from the MSM and we haven’t learned the lesson of not putting all our refining capacity or most of it in one vulnerable area.

telecomThe IT topics represented by Microsoft, Apple and Comcast represent a trio of standouts all compromising the digital landscape. MS continues its habit of trying to convince users that things are different now. Apple has become as notorious as a techo-gangsta’ as MS with its idiot phone marketing as the latest Comcast episode proving net neutrality is an issue.

The unlinked titles below, of course, represent the least important topics offered on the list of most popular news items. Have a fine Labor Day Weekend and start clicking on the important stuff. Focus on MoreWhat Matters

Obama Would Be Repeat of Carter Years

Posted in Public Affairs, wordpress, Politics, campaign, election, Democrats, News Media, obama, Opinion on August 30th, 2008 by Stanford Matthews

former President Jimmy CarterFormer Democratic President Jimmy Carter believes Obama is the Messiah and that the GOP is bad for the US. With so much focus on energy these days, how did Jimmy Carter do on energy 30 years ago.

Carter told Americans that the energy crisis was “a clear and present danger to our nation” and drew out a plan to address it.

In 1977 Carter had convinced the Democratic Congress to create the United States Department of Energy (DoE). Promoting the department’s recommendation to conserve energy, Carter wore cardigan sweaters, had solar hot water panels installed on the roof of the White House, had a wood stove in his living quarters, ordered the General Services Administration to turn off hot water in some federal facilities, and requested that Christmas decorations remain dark in 1979 and 1980. Nationwide controls were put on thermostats in government and commercial buildings to prevent people from raising temperatures in the winter (above 65 degrees Fahrenheit) or lowering them in the summer (below 78 degrees Fahrenheit).

As reaction to a perceived “energy crisis” and growing concerns over air pollution, Carter also signed the National Energy Act (NEA) and the Public Utilities Regulatory Policy Act (PURPA). The purpose of these watershed laws was to encourage energy conservation and the development of national energy resources, including renewables such as wind and solar energy.

pumpin' oilJimmy, did you convince anyone to conserve? Jimmy, how’d you do on those renewables such as wind and solar? Jimmy, did you expand domestic production and refining? Jimmy, 30 years later has anything changed on energy issues? Ya, Jimmy, go ahead and blame everyone else like your lefty candidate will. Sure, Jimmy, the left always wanted what was best but the big bad GOP wouldn’t let them.

And say, Jimmy, how’d foreign policy and the economy do while you were in office?

Led by Volcker, the Federal Reserve raised the discount rate from 10 percent when Volcker assumed the chairmanship in August 1979 to 12 percent within two months.[38] The prime rate hit 21.5 percent in December 1980, the highest rate in U.S. history under any President. Investments in fixed income (both bonds and pensions being paid to retired people) were becoming less valuable. The high interest rates would lead to a sharp recession in the early 1980s.

That was the economy, Jimmy, and below is one of your foreign policy disasters…..

IranOn a state visit to Iran, Carter spoke out in favor of the Shah, calling him a leader of supreme wisdom, and a pillar of stability in the volatile Middle East. The speech was apparently never shown on American television.

When the Iranian Revolution broke out in Iran and the Shah was overthrown, the U.S. did not intervene directly. The Shah went into permanent exile. Carter initially refused him entry to the United States, even on grounds of medical emergency.

Despite his initial refusal to admit the Shah into the United States, on October 22, 1979, Carter finally granted him entry and temporary asylum for the duration of his cancer treatment; the Shah left for Panama on December 15, 1979. In response to the Shah’s entry into the U.S., Iranian militants seized the American embassy in Tehran, taking 52 Americans hostage.

You’re right Jimmy, one can believe that your candidate, Obama, will straighten out domestic and international matters much like you did. And if the Clintons really believe that Obama is the One, maybe he can duplicate their mistakes and missed opportunities to avoid 9/11 by letting Bin Laden get away and repeat other events like Whitewater, Travelgate, Chinagate, threats of impeachment, and let’s not forget Zippergate. The list is too large to duplicate here.

The report from VOA below is responsible for the commentary above. Jimmy Carter’s presidency, while some success was achieved, overall was a staggering failure. As much as the Clinton’s would have you believe their’s was a success, Hillary’s defeat by Obama and shunning from her party elite would indicate that is no longer the view even by Democrats.

Ya Jimmy, the similarities between issues and a Presidential election in 1976 and 2008. The public took a chance and abandoned the GOP for you. Look what happened. We should not make the same mistake this time. As it took for painful years before President Reagan was elected and straightened things out. You can say Obama is ready to lead all you want. It won’t change the facts. Obama in 2008 will be you in 1976 all over again. A scenario we cannot afford financially or on principle.

Former President Carter Says Obama Ready to Lead

28 August 2008
Carter report / Broadband - Download (WM) video clip
Carter report / Broadband - Watch (WM) video clip

Former President Jimmy Carter did not formally endorse Illinois Senator Barack Obama until the primary season was over in June. But in an interview with VOA’s Kane Farabaugh at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, he said he and most of his family voted for Obama in Georgia’s February primary election. Now, as Obama prepares to formally accept his party’s nomination, President Carter says Obama’s message of change is also a way to improve the image of the United States abroad.
In 1976, when then-Georgia Governor Jimmy Carter was running as a Democrat against President Gerald Ford, energy security, inflation, dissatisfaction with a Republican administration, and foreign policy issues in Iran and Afghanistan dominated the campaign.

President Carter says there are many similarities between the elections in 1976 and 2008.

“I ran on a platform of change, of course that’s what America was ready for,” he said “The difference between me and Obama is that I didn’t have any money.”

Obama also has a message of change that resonated with his supporters during the primary elections. But his critics charge that message is more rhetoric than substance. President Carter says if Obama were to win in November, his inaugural speech and his message of change could be heard well beyond the United States.
“He can say when I am President of the United States, we will never torture another prisoner. While I am President of the United States, we will never go to war against another country unless our own security is directly threatened. When I am President of the United States, we will be the champion of human rights all over the Earth,” Mr. Carter said.

Foreign policy challenges marked Jimmy Carter’s presidency, from a hostage crisis in Iran to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. The issues contributed to his defeat by Ronald Reagan in the 1980 election.

Obama said he picked Delaware Senator Joe Biden as a running mate in part because of his strong foreign policy credentials. Just before Obama announced his choice, Biden made a trip to the former Soviet Republic of Georgia, which is pressing for Russian troops to leave its territory.

Mr. Carter says relations with Russia will be a major foreign policy challenge for the next president of the United States.

“I’m not defending Russia, but we still need to be sensitive to how they feel as they are surrounded by increasingly friendly nations to the West,” he said.

President Carter has kept a relatively low profile at this week’s Democratic National Convention. He turned down an opportunity to give a speech on the first day. And his only scheduled appearance before the crowd occurred after a previously taped segment that included his thoughts on flood ravaged New Orleans.

Mr. Carter has mostly stayed out of the political spotlight since he left the White House in 1981. He rarely campaigns for candidates, but says he stands ready to support Obama in any way he can.
…… and an excerpt from a VOA interview with Carter again proves how detached from reality Carter has become if one believes he ever was realistic…..

Jimmy Carter: Obama could restore U.S. moral authority

Former President Jimmy Carter says the United States has lost its moral authority under the Bush administration. But, in an interview with VOA, he says that could be quickly restored by a President Obama. “In his inaugural address, he could say, ‘when I am president of the United States, we will never torture another prisoner; when I am president of the United States; we will never go to war against another country unless our security is directly threatened; when I am president of the United States, we will be champions of human rights all over the earth.’ You see, in 10 minutes he could spell out for the world and for America, of course, the changes he could make,” Mr. Carter said.

from MoreWhat.com
How can a former President express such juvenile notions about managing foreign policy? With the Democratic party so anxious about their chances in the November election, their reaching for solutions seems to indicate an impending breakdown. As if fear and self-loathing within their ranks has caused some sort of mass hysteria.

Obama Votes for Political Cover

Posted in Public Affairs, wordpress, Politics, campaign, election, Democrats, disclosure, ethics, obama, Legislation, Abortion on August 30th, 2008 by Stanford Matthews

ObamaIf directed by party leaders or simply as a tactic to avoid taking a stand on issues Senator Barack Obama tends to vote ‘present’. From abortion to porn sales to treating children as adults in the criminal justice system Obama may say one thing on the stump and fail to back up his ‘words’ with action. Even on legislation viewed as bipartisan, the Senator from Illinois boasts his power to bring people together yet only votes ‘present’. Voting ‘present’ on abortion bills while publicly criticizing abortion legislation in South Dakota gives credence to the allegation that Obama changes his stand depending on the audience.

For a man who makes all the claims he does on his own qualifications and ability to be President, Obama has a peculiar record when it comes to voting. In many instances with the GOP and Dems choosing to vote the same on a measure, Obama does not vote. You can see for yourself at WaPo’s Votes Database page. It is easier to navigate for most than similar resources from Congress. Lately and again Mr Obama has used the lame criticism that McCain is four more years of Bush and that the Arizona Senator voted with Bush more than 90% of the time. Number one, McCain is a Republican and is likely to vote with a Republican President. Just as Obama has voted 96% of the time with his Democratic party.

As the excerpt below suggests, Obama likes to sidestep issues by voting ‘present’. He also likes to sidestep issues like why he has a relationship with domestic terrorist Bill Ayers and used his connections to get started in politics.

It’s Not Just ‘Ayes’ and ‘Nays’: Obama’s Votes in Illinois Echo

By RAYMOND HERNANDEZ and CHRISTOPHER DREW
Published: December 20, 2007

In 1999, Barack Obama was faced with a difficult vote in the Illinois legislature — to support a bill that would let some juveniles be tried as adults, a position that risked drawing fire from African-Americans, or to oppose it, possibly undermining his image as a tough-on-crime moderate.

In the end, Mr. Obama chose neither to vote for nor against the bill. He voted “present,” effectively sidestepping the issue, an option he invoked nearly 130 times as a state senator.

Sometimes the “present’ votes were in line with instructions from Democratic leaders or because he objected to provisions in bills that he might otherwise support. At other times, Mr. Obama voted present on questions that had overwhelming bipartisan support. In at least a few cases, the issue was politically sensitive.

On a mainstream liberal issue Obama draws fire from NOW, Clinton and others for swaying voters with varying positions on issues. Say one thing, do another and hope no one notices. You can only wonder if his foreign policy would work the same way.

NOW Again Attacks Obama’s Illinois Voting Record on Abortion Bills

abortion issueBy Matthew Mosk
Washington Post Staff Writer
Tuesday, February 5, 2008; Page A08

A national women’s rights group supporting Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) distributed an e-mail yesterday accusing Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) of being soft on abortion rights, revisiting an eleventh-hour attack that some analysts credited with swaying female voters in New Hampshire.

The e-mail from Rosemary J. Dempsey, president of the Connecticut National Organization for Women, told members that Obama’s record during his time in the Illinois Senate included several instances in which he voted “present” instead of yes or no on abortion-related legislation.

There is a claim made in a fact check presented at WaPo indicating ‘present’ votes are viewed as ‘no’ votes in Illinois to give politicians cover against there voting record being used against them. Be that as it may, changing his present votes to no may still indicate he is not who he says he is and to use such a tactic for political cover says a lot about his choices also. Vote yes if that is your choice or no for the same reason. Have the courage of your convictions and let the voters decide based on the truth. If your philosophy does not match the voting public you will be outta here. Have the courage some attribute to you and say what you mean and vote accordingly. Hiding behind ‘present’ votes or not voting is simply wrong.

Gov Sarah Palin, Day One

Posted in Public Affairs, wordpress, Politics, campaign, election, McCain, obama, Gov Sarah Palin on August 29th, 2008 by Stanford Matthews

Gov Sarah PalinAs stated in the initial post on McCain’s VP choice of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, some time would be necessary to absorb the news of this political event. What that really meant was time to analyze the upside and downside of the choice. It might be fair to characterize the Daily Kos as a website that enjoys being thought of as the voice of the far left. So it is a natural choice for quick briefs on what may be circulating through liberal outlets. Using one of their posts for search terms brought the following story up in the results.

This summer, Palin also has had a major political setback in Alaska as a nasty divorce involving her sister seeped into state government, and the Alaska Legislature has appointed an investigator to look for possible abuses of office.

The scandal broke after the Alaska Commissioner of Public Safety Walter Monegan left office, and alleged that he had been bumped out because he would not terminate a state trooper once married to Palin’s sister, who was then involved in a child custody dispute.

Earlier this month. Palin released an audio recording that detailed an aide’s attempt to pressure the Public Safety Department to fire the state trooper, according to The Anchorage Daily News.

Palin said that her staff had made about two dozen contacts with public safety officials about the trooper, according to the Anchorage newspaper.

“I do now have to tell Alaskans that such pressure could have been perceived to exist although I have only now become aware of it,” Palin said.

But Palin said that she didn’t fire Monegan due to his reluctance to force out the trooper

Gov Sarah PalinIt was no news that Alaskan politics has been under fire lately. Together with an apparent leaning toward increasing taxes on big oil, a state investigation as to whether or not the governor is guilty of abuse of office and a familiar sound bite from her expressing she ‘only now became aware of it’, the idea is that McCain’s campaign and the RNC should hope they did their due diligence on vetting this VP selection and that no surprises are waiting to bite them in the ballot.

With that in mind, the left’s contention may be for all the noise made by the right about Obama’s lack of experience, McCain’s heart beat away choice for VP has the same problem. Not so fast lefties, read the resume’ again. Does this woman ever sleep? Ya, she has a short resume’ but look at all the accomplishments. Can Barack Obama show any such feats with his self-proclaimed community organizer description. He does not tout his political accomplishments because he has none.

The only experience he gives in defense of no foreign policy background is a recent ‘world tour’ for photo ops and growing up in Indonesia from which his most noted recollection is the Muslim call for prayer is one of the most beautiful sounds on the planet. Was that supposed to be a subtle appeasement to the terrorists disguised as a compliment to the so-called religion of peace? His only claim to fame in Illinois state politics and the US Senate is his connection and political backing by Bill Ayers and other Hyde Park lefties.

One can appreciate the left’s passion for finding a Messiah. God knows they need one. But to believe that Barack Obama is that Messiah falls flat. When the clan sometimes described as the most powerful brand in Democratic politics, aka Clintons, are undone by an upstart junior Senator from Illinois and the great god of the left, Ted Kennedy, endorses and supports Obama just like he did the losing candidacy of John Kerry four years ago, the lefties need something. But Barack Obama is not it.

Hillary Clinton conceded at the Democratic party convention that her political career is over. John Edwards exchanged his politics for a panty raid and Barack Obama prefers unrepentant domestic terrorists, preachers who damn America and appeasing state sponsors of terror.

If the potential downside of McCain’s VP choice goes no further than the report linked above, Palin’s resume’ and indicated philosophy may be a refreshing input in national politics. There does not appear to be anything in Palin’s background that should concern conservatives and even liberals should be comfortable with the VP nominee to be. With the number of big time Clinton donors that have defected to McCain, his VP choice is poised to support that notion and provide even more defections as well as support from independents and the women’s vote. At least for day one there seems to be plenty of upside with Sarah Palin.

‘Official’ Palin bio, from Alaska’s state site

Friday, August 29, 2008

Governor Sarah Palin made history on Dec. 4, 2006, when she took office. As the 11th governor of Alaska, she is the first woman to hold the office.

Since taking office, her top priorities have been resource development, education and workforce development, public health and safety, and transportation and infrastructure development.

Under her leadership, Alaska invested $5 billion in state savings, overhauled education funding, and implemented the Senior Benefits Program that provides support for low-income older Alaskans. She created Alaskas Petroleum Systems Integrity Office to provide oversight and maintenance of oil and gas equipment, facilities and infrastructure, and the Climate Change Subcabinet to prepare a climate change strategy for Alaska.

Pushed ethics, pipeline laws

During her first legislative session, Governor Palins administration passed two major pieces of legislation an overhaul of the states ethics laws and a competitive process to construct a gas pipeline.

Governor Palin is chair of the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission, a multi-state government agency that promotes the conservation and efficient recovery of domestic oil and natural gas resources while protecting health, safety and the environment. She was recently named chair of the National Governors Association (NGA) Natural Resources Committee, which is charged with pursuing legislation to ensure state needs are considered as federal policy is formulated in the areas of agriculture, energy, environmental protection and natural resource management. Prior to being named to this position, she served as co-chair of this committee.

City council member, mayor

Prior to her election as governor, Palin served two terms on the Wasilla City Council and two terms as the mayor/manager of Wasilla. During her tenure, she reduced property tax levels while increasing services and made Wasilla a business friendly environment, drawing in new industry.

She has served as chair of the Alaska Conservation Commission, which regulates Alaska’s most valuable non-renewable resources: oil and gas. She was elected by her peers to serve as president of the Alaska Conference of Mayors. In this role, she worked with local, state and federal officials to promote solutions to the needs of Alaska’s communities.

Education, family

Sarah Heath Palin arrived in Alaska with her family in 1964, when her parents came to teach school in Skagway. She received a bachelor of science degree in communications-journalism from the University of Idaho in 1987. Palin, who graduated from Wasilla High School in 1982, has lived in Skagway, Eagle River and Wasilla.

She is married to Todd Palin, who is a lifelong Alaskan, a production operator on the North Slope and a four-time champion of the Iron Dog, the world’s longest snowmachine race.

Todd and Sarah fish in Bristol Bay with their children Track, Bristol, Willow, Piper and Trig. Through Todds Yup’ik grandmother, Alaskas Native heritage plays an important role in their family. Track enlisted in the U.S. Army on Sept. 11, 2007.

Prior to taking office, Palin served on numerous boards and commissions throughout the state. She was active in her familys pursuits including serving as a sports team mom and school volunteer. She also runs marathons.

Palin is a lifetime member of the NRA and enjoys hunting, fishing, Alaska history, and all that Alaska’s great outdoors has to offer.

Hillary Money Heads to McCain

From Bill Clinton’s announcement that Barack Obama’s campaign claims are the biggest ‘fairy tale’ to Hillary Clinton’s statement that she and John McCain have the experience to be President of the United States while Obama only has a ’speech he gave in 2002′ they now both try to convince the American public that Obama is ready to lead. The Democratic party mantra of ‘hope and change’ is HOPING you did not notice this CHANGE. At least 85 prominent Clinton campaign donors did notice or saw it coming months ago and have switched their flow of contributions to John McCain.

Some of Hillary Clinton’s most fervent supporters are taking their enthusiasm and their campaign contributions to John McCain

As Barack Obama prepares to accept taking his fairy tale to the public on behalf of the Democratic party his running mate Senator Joseph Biden assumes the attack dog role of VP nominee. This is the same Biden famous for a tendency toward plagiarism who hosted a luncheon to make nice with the person he plagiarized in 1990.

Published on July 19, 1990, The Washington Times
Sen. Joseph Biden Jr., who became famous for purloining political rhetoric, yesterday made restitution with beef tenderloin for the author of his best material. The Delaware Democrat was host at a Senate luncheon for Neil Kinnock, leader of the British Labor Party, from whom he plagiarized a speech three years ago that caused a minor scandal and derailed his 1988 presidential campaign.

Perhaps the two Dems are running mates based on these tendencies. Hillary Clinton pointed out that Obama plagiarizes Governor Deval Patrick and Obama did not deny it but …

Obama downplayed the significance of the accusation.

“I’ve written two books, wrote most of my speeches. So I think putting aside the question … in terms of whether my words are my own, I think that would be carrying it too far,” Obama said.

“Deval and I do trade ideas all the time, and you know he’s occasionally used lines of mine,” Obama said.

Obama said he also used some of Deval’s words at a Jefferson-Jackson dinner in Wisconsin.

“I would add I’ve noticed on occasion Sen. Clinton has used words of mine as well,” said Obama. “As I said before, I really don’t think this is too big of a deal.”

The plagiarism thing may seem trivial and perhaps it is. What is not trivial is what the practice says about the candidates. What else that is wrong do they think is no big deal?

cashJoe Biden once took PAC money but now is PAC-pure
Los Angeles Times
Barack Obama makes a point of rejecting money from political action committees, condemning them as a symbol of what’s wrong with insider politics in Washington.

Edwards’ Money Man Also Has Ties to Biden
By Matthew Mosk
When newly minted vice presidential pick Joe Biden arrives in Denver, he will be greeted by one of his most generous supporters, trial lawyer Fred Baron.

Okay, which is it? Is Biden PAC pure and we should believe he is not beholding to money interests or is the Edwards’ money man one example of who pays for Biden’s politics? Barack Obama wants you to believe that money does not influence his candidacy. Did Obama change his mind on public financing of this year’s campaigns and election? Is the Clinton clan’s feigned support of Obama for political purposes no big deal? In the primaries Obama was not experienced enough but now the Clintons reverse their opinions that he is. Is that no big deal?

And Biden must have been wrong on Obama as well. Biden said in the primaries that the Presidency does not lend itself to on the job training. That Obama is truly the Messiah. He has acquired the experience to be President in a matter of months. Is this all no big deal?

GOP Convention Will Need Substance, Not Rhetoric

Posted in Public Affairs, wordpress, Politics, campaign, election, GOP, conservative on August 28th, 2008 by Stanford Matthews

Beyond the need for matching a political event to the technology available, the GOP has of course a much larger challenge of convincing the general public or a sufficient number of them that the Republican party has learned its lesson after straying from their core conservative principles. Yet if the GOP in advance of the convention is preparing a media showcase to provide a meaningful presentation of its case to the public, they may be well on their way to success. Or at least it shows they are trying. You could suspect it is simply more political maneuvering like a slick campaign ad but increased access for bloggers and the media in general seems to move away from the scripted, controlled access of many campaigns of the past.

GOP

The Democratic party may provide the GOP with a bonus. If there is trouble brewing or boiling over at the Dems Convention the job of the GOP may be lessened. But even self-destruction within the Democratic party would not reduce the workload by much for the GOP. They should only take it as being spotted a few points in the game and continue to mount a full court press.

Minneapolis, St. Paul Gear Up for Republican Convention

RNC XCEL Energy Center report / Broadband - Watch (WM) video clip

The Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul in the state of Minnesota are gearing up to host the Republican National Convention in early September with 45,000 visitors expected, as well as an influx of media organizations. VOA’s Kane Farabaugh reports from St. Paul that accommodating the media in an age of rapidly changing technology is a big challenge for convention organizers.

Republican National Convention Preparation
Joanna Burgos
As signs go up outside…work goes on inside the Xcel Energy Center to transform the ice hockey stadium into the showcase of the Republican Party.

Convention Press Secretary Joanna Burgos says the goal is to make the event accessible to those not actually there.

“A big focus for this year’s convention is to actually engage people at home and to make people at home feel like they are part of the convention,” Burgos said. “And the way to do that is to accommodate the media.”

Republicans are catering to roughly 15,000 accredited members of the media. They hope to make this the most technologically advanced convention they have organized.

Convention Media Resources
Mike Miller
Since the Republican National Convention in Miami in 1972, technology has come a long way. Mike Miller managed the setup of that convention and is setting up this one.

“Back then you had three networks, and they pretty well dominated television,” Miller said. “Now you know what television is like. With the proliferation of cable and other networks and then of course the Internet came. They came in a little bit in 1996 and have been growing ever since where we have a tremendous influx of bloggers this year.”

A special section of the Xcel Center will be specifically for bloggers. They report and post to various websites and need fast and accessible Internet connections.

This year, the Beijing Olympics are taking place close — in time — to the Democratic Convention in Denver and the Republicans in St. Paul.

Miller says that is stretching the media’s resources.

“In the production side and theatrical side, they’ve had to plan ahead for that very reason, because there can be a shortage of certain things like uplink trucks, and other things that you need,” her said.

Finalizing Convention Site Groundwork

work at the convention siteMiller doesn’t expect problems or delays in completing work at the convention site.

Local workers are available. They fall under the direction of the convention’s general contractor, Greg Lane.

“We’re in the 300 plus range with the electricians and people working on the stages, platforms, and media areas,” he said.

The number is expected to grow as the September 1 start of the convention draws near.

The final night of the convention — when Senator John McCain will accept his party’s nomination — is the most rewarding moment for Miller.

“I like to see the last night with all the balloons coming down and the nominees celebrating and then to relax when it’s over,” he said.

But for John McCain, there will be no repose. The last night of the convention marks the beginning of the final, intense, months of the presidential campaign. It ends with the election on November 4.
