A Little Clinton History Vol 1 No 2

In chronological order this edition of a little Clinton history begins with a common theme from the illustrious career of Bill Clinton although the focus is really Hillary. But then, where you have one, at least in politics, you have the other.
President Clinton yesterday responded to allegations that he used his security detail while governor of Arkansas to facilitate extramarital affairs by saying he “did not do anything wrong.” One trooper through his attorney denied reports that Clinton had offered him a job in exchange for his silence.
Then there is some early references to the Clinton 1993 Health Security Act. She said recently, meaning during this 2008 Presidential campaign that mistakes were made in hawking her original health care plan which was the flagship of the Clinton Administration during the 92 campaign and the first term. But as Hillary is known to do, her tactics were to beat the opposition into submission. Most likely the biggest reason for failure of her health care idea outside of the fact that the plan was fatally flawed all on its own. More on that after the next two excerpts.
Hillary Rodham Clinton said today that the Administration was willing to negotiate the future of the nation’s health care system with liberal Democrats and moderate Republicans, but she turned a surprisingly cold shoulder to conservative Democrats whom her husband embraced in last year’s Presidential campaign.
The First Lady said the Administration was willing to consider changes in President Clinton’s health care plan so long as the final product guaranteed “universal coverage with comprehensive benefits.” She said that the only proposals that earned serious consideration by those standards were the President’s plan and those offered by liberal Democrats and moderate Republicans.
They are “the only ones that recognize the importance of achieving universal coverage,” Mrs. Clinton said in a meeting with 22 journalists at the White House.
There is some evidence of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing or unable to reach agreement. Not with members of Congress but between HRC and Bill. He courts conservative Democrats during his initial campaign and in the first term his wife drives a wedge in it. Do you suppose that had anything to do with killing any meaningful discussion on health care during the Clinton years. And how would HRC’s performance be different if allowed to once again enter the White House. What is a more probable reality is HRC would, no doubt, view being elected as a mandate from the American public to continue high risk and reckless adventures. Her marriage and political alliances alone have shown that in her case ambition trumps everything else, even common sense.
With 15 interruptions for thunderous applause and three standing ovations, [Hillary Rodham Clinton] discussed a list of hot-button issues meant to bring the nation’s most powerful medical lobby to the administration’s side in the struggle to overhaul the health care system.
It was unclear how Clinton’s criticism of managed care squared with the administration’s proposed health care plan which, at its core, rests on the belief that managed care is the most cost- effective way to provide medical care and would force many more patients and physicians into such organizations.
While it is fair to say that the AMA certainly has there own selfish reasons for resisting any change to the health care system, a key in the excerpt above is the resounding theme of ‘would force’ component of ClintonCare then and HillaryCare now. The package was rewritten by the same people that wrote the first one and the theme just noted gives support to the idea that socialist Hillary Rodham Clinton’s notion of health care is to control it with government regulation and strip market forces and personal choice from the system. Ending abusive and fraudulent practices in health care would be great but HRC’s answer is to dictate how that will be done with no guarantee or mechanism to ensure success. All that with staggering costs to the taxpayer.
This trip down memory lane concludes with references to the original 1993 Health Security Act offered by Clinton and company and an excerpt and link to a Heritage Foundation report on the topic.
* POPULAR TITLE(S):
Clinton’s Health Care bill (identified by CRS)
Health Care Reform bill (identified by CRS)
* SHORT TITLE(S) AS INTRODUCED:
Health Security Act
* SHORT TITLE(S) AS REPORTED TO HOUSE:
Health Security Act
National Community Health Advisor Act
* OFFICIAL TITLE AS INTRODUCED:
To ensure individual and family security through health care coverage for all Americans in a manner that contains the rate of growth in health care costs and promotes responsible health insurance practices, to promote choice in health care, and to ensure and protect the health care of all Americans.
If you just browse the above reference at the link provided the fear of God will set in when you consider that HRC has had a decade and a half to make her plan scarier than the original which on its own is material for a horror flick. The Heritage Foundation appraisal below is also enlightening.
And many ordinary Americans no doubt will be shocked to learn that Members of Congress, Administration officials, and other federal workers will not join the system, if at all, until after the rest of the country is under the program.
Despite all the talk of removing red tape and bureaucracy, personal choice and responsibility are tightly restricted in the Plan by boards and alliances, commissions and panels. Government regulation rather than market competition is the chief instrument to contain costs and deliver medical services.
