Amnesty Fighters Gather at Senate State Offices

Just found this press release from ALIPAC and even though it is not a timely presentation in terms of participating in the event it is very useful in analyzing the results in the Senate this morning. It is another example of the strong public opinion against S.1639, its former failed amnesty attempt in the package known as S.1348 and the Senate bill that failed last year as the Senate’s version of HR 4437 from the House in December 2005. HR 4437 passed with overwhelming support in the House. It may have been a political scheme in light of the Senate’s inability to pass any legislation to strengthen border security and immigration control whether a GOP or Democrat majority was present. The outpouring of public outrage over the federal government’s reluctance to promote common sense responses to security challenges may have turned the tide against the liberal amnesty plans being offered in the Senate.
The efforts of groups like ALIPAC, the Coalition Against Illegal Immigration, Blogs for Borders and numerous other advocates for the rule of law may have provided the additional pressure required to defeat amnesty again. But how many more times will this be necessary before Congress and the White House get the message? Some have suggested often that if the current proposals were not accepted there would be no legislation until after the 2008 Presidential election. And further they claim current law is unenforceable. It does not seem to inhibit ICE from performing selective operations that result in rounding up illegals. So which way is it Senators, unenforceable or selective use of existing law? Are you merely trying to appease the public with token enforcement?

June 28, 2007 - The calls, e-mails, and faxes are flying to US Senate offices, while concerned citizens gather at the main state offices of each Senator that voted YES for CLOTURE on Tuesday of this week and they are hoping to send a clear message that a Yes vote on cloture today is a yes vote for Amnesty.
“We know that several Senators are under pressure from the Open Borders Lobby (OBL) to vote Yes on cloture and then no on the bill,” says William Gheen of Americans for Legal Immigration PAC. “Concerned citizens are gathering in their offices this morning to await the cloture vote results and to send a clear message that procedural tricks will not fly with the public back home.”
The Cloture vote is required for the amnesty bill to proceed to a final vote. Sixty votes are needed for cloture while only 50 votes are required for passage. Any Senator that truly wants to stop the amnesty bill will vote No on Cloture. Some Senators are going to try and vote yes on cloture, then no on the bill and then return to their home states to falsely claim they opposed the bill!
“We are looking at a super majority of Americans opposed to this bill,” said William Gheen. “The vast majority of calls to Washington are against this bill, but the Senate is not listening. Citizens gathering in their offices this morning will signal to Senators that they cannot get away from the public wrath if they vote yes on cloture. Today’s vote is the deciding vote!”
ALIPAC and many other national and local organizations have joined together in the effort to send concerned citizens into the 64 offices of those that voted Yes on Tuesday, with special focus on the offices of Barbara Boxer, Richard Burr, Ron Wyden, Bayh and Lugar.
Members of the press are encouraged to join concerned citizens in all 64 offices as they await the results and responce to the cloture vote.
