Blog @ MoreWhat.com

Posted in Announcement, wordpress on August 31st, 2010 by Stanford Matthews

Just a little update for visitors. There is some long overdue upgrading and changes going on here. Won’t bore you with the details. I’m even less interested than you are.

The location you are at now was the first incarnation of Blog @ MoreWhat.com

It will become the (archived) Blog @ MoreWhat.com

This link is the (new location) for Blog @ MoreWhat.com

Further updates will be added to this page if necessary. Bet you can’t wait.

This message ends with a really annoying sentiment.

Have a nice day. ( I know I won’t be having one till this nonsense is complete 8)

BTW, accidentally blasted my last two posts while updating. That’s okay. Would not want to end this version of Blog @ MoreWhat.com with a post on firebreathing bartenders and a story about NOLA and Katrina five years later.

BTW(2), this archive contains everything from August 2006 (the beginning) thru August 2010. Just knew you were dying to know that.

We the People

Highlighting some important issues is good even if politicians do it for the wrong reasons. It is up to the public to pressure their reps to do what is right. Some POLS are finally making statements about the need to examine anchor babies and other misuse of US immigration policy.

We need to remember people like Sheriff Joe are the good guys. Arpaio, Brewer and Pearce have started what needs to be done. While Clinton-nominated Judge Bolton slowed the progress of SB 1070 in Arizona there is reason to believe the fight has just begun in earnest and the will of the people will win as shamnesty advocates will be sent home in November 2010.

For instance, a recent report indicates Sharron Angle is once again gaining on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in Nevada. Opposition to incumbents across the nation indicates voter anger will clean house this fall.

Some of the stories below demonstrate the continued efforts to restore traditional principles and values to our great nation. Be part of the solution, not part of the problem.

Throw the bums out in November 2010, 2012 and repeat as necessary. Liberals and RINOs must go along with illegals. Do not tax our economy into oblivion. Eliminate debt and deficits by cutting entitlements and other waste. Stengthen national security and border control. Return to the founding principles and the rule of law.

Liberal agenda be damned. Restore America. Do the right thing.

Judge Bolton Impedes Arizona Law

Posted in Public Affairs, Announcement, Terrorism, wordpress, Politics, Immigration, Tancredo, United States, Law, Justice, Arizona, Border Control, Blogs4Borders, Jan Brewer on July 28th, 2010 by Stanford Matthews

STATEMENT BY GOVERNOR JAN BREWER

PHOENIX – “I am disappointed by Judge Susan Bolton’s ruling enjoining several provisions of “The Support Our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act” — SB 1070; though I am heartened by some findings – including the ban on sanctuary cities.

“This fight is far from over. In fact, it is just the beginning, and at the end of what is certain to be a long legal struggle, Arizona will prevail in its right to protect our citizens. I am deeply grateful for the overwhelming support we have received from across our nation in our efforts to defend against the failures of the federal government.

“I have consulted with my legal counsel about our next steps. We will take a close look at every single element Judge Bolton removed from the law, and we will soon file an expedited appeal at the United States Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit.

“For anyone willing to see it — the crisis is as clear as is the federal government’s failure to address it.

“The judge herself noted that the stash houses where smugglers hide immigrants from Mexico before bringing them into the country’s interior have become a fixture on the news in Arizona and that, ‘You can barely go a day without a location being found in Phoenix where there are numerous people being harbored.’”

“When I signed the bill on April 23rd, I said, SB 1070 – represents another tool for our state to use as we work to address a crisis we did not create and the federal government has actively refused to fix. The law protects all of us, every Arizona citizen and everyone here in our state lawfully. And, it does so while ensuring that the constitutional rights of ALL in Arizona are undiminished – holding fast to the diversity that has made Arizona so great.

“I will battle all the way to the Supreme Court, if necessary, for the right to protect the citizens of Arizona. Meanwhile, I also know we still have work to do in confronting the fear-mongers, those dealing in hate and lies and economic boycotts that seek to do Arizona harm.

“We have already made some progress in waking up Washington. But the question still remains: will Washington do its job, and put an end to the daily operations of smugglers in our nation, or will the delays and sidesteps continue? I believe that the defenders of the rule of law will ultimately succeed with us in our demand for action.”

Is Al Gore Really Sleazy? (in addition to the AGW scam)

Posted in Announcement, wordpress, Gore, News Media, Entertainment on June 24th, 2010 by Stanford Matthews

More heartwarming enlightenment from the NYT fishwrap about global warming scam artist Al Gore hits your news stand. Okay, the byline is from AP.

Gore Was Accused of Sexual Advances

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A massage therapist accused former Vice President Al Gore of “unwanted sexual contact” at a hotel in October 2006, but no charges were filed because of lack of evidence, law officials said Wednesday.

Okay, it’s in the NYT.  It is credited to AP.  But imagine this, the National Enquirer published the report on Wednesday. Hey, the tabloid lost some of its sleaze factor in recent years for breaking, I dunno, real news stories.  So who knows?

That’s right folks, even a massage therapist has the right to decline advances from a sleazy scam artist.  Way to go, Al. And how many carbon credits did you require for this misadventure?

Paul Distances Himself From Libertarian Party

Posted in Public Affairs, Announcement, wordpress, Politics, campaign, election, conservative, liberal, News Media, disclosure, ethics, Opinion on June 12th, 2010 by Stanford Matthews

PAstatueOfLiberty03.jpgRepublican Rand Paul said Tuesday he differs with the Libertarian Party by opposing abortion and supporting judicious overseas troop deployment, distancing himself from the party his father once represented in a presidential election.

The U.S. Senate candidate from Kentucky told syndicated conservative talk show host Sean Hannity that he doesn’t fit the mold of a Libertarian. Paul said his conservative social views and willingness to send troops abroad to protect the U.S. set him apart from the party some have tried to associate him with.

An earlier post on this blog reminded readers that Rand Paul is a Libertarian and not a conservative. It would be nice to think that is responsible for his statements on Sean Hannity’s radio show. But then this is just another insignificant blog and could not possibly influence big time politicians.

Mark Levin supports Rand Paul and from what I heard considers him a conservative. I respect Mark Levin and his opinions but am reminded of Scott Brown’s win in Massachusetts. I don’t believe Scott Brown is a conservative either.

Maybe Rand Paul could explain in detail what he means by ‘judicious overseas troop deployment.’ Is this someone carefully dancing around the facts or is he truly a conservative in libertarian’s clothing. Or maybe it’s the other way around.

If politics was an honest living it might not be necessary to be so skeptical. (or cynical if you prefer that word)

Rima Fakih, Liberals’ Muslim Poster Child for Miss USA

Posted in Education, Announcement, Lebanon, wordpress, Politics, liberal, conspiracy, Hol_ywood, Entertainment on May 17th, 2010 by Stanford Matthews

crossposted at Maggie’s Notebook

The only transparency available from liberals is demonstrated by their politically correct choices as determined by their adoption of 7th century theocracy into their nanny state agenda. As long as they are bowing to Arab leaders and coddling Muslim terrorists (pardon the redundancy) might as well invade pop culture with politics.

Arab-American Crowned Miss USA
VOA News

Arab-American won the title of Miss USA in the annual beauty pageant held Sunday night in Las Vegas.

Rima Fakih, a Lebanese immigrant, won the pageant after swimsuit, evening gown and interview competitions.

During the competition, she nearly fell while walking in her gown, but she made it without a spill and went on to beat out contestants from all of the 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Fakih, who moved to the United States as a baby, is believed to be the first Arab-American and Muslim to hold the title of Miss USA.

She told pageant organizers that her family celebrates both Catholic and Muslim holidays.

Fakih represented the state of Michigan. According to pageant officials, she is a graduate of the University of Michigan, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. After completing her reign as Miss USA, Fakih plans to attend law school.

The Miss USA pageant is not affiliated with the annual Miss America pageant.

Now for the news you don’t get via most of the MSM on this topic.

A gaffetastic new Miss USA

“I believe that birth control is just like every other medication even though it’s a controlled substance,” Fakih said.

An Econ graduate of the University of Michigan heading for law school offers that quote? Do you now understand the problem of education in the United States? It gets better. But you will have to self-serve the due diligence to uncover the rest.

Given the political landscape both in the United States and around the planet how convenient was it to have Rima Fakih selected as Miss USA? (not to mention, political)

Facebook’s Consumer Scam

Posted in Money Matters, Technology, Announcement, wordpress, internet, disclosure, ethics, Advertising, Business, facebook on May 15th, 2010 by Stanford Matthews

cyber crimeOne sound bite or excerpt is probably as good as another regarding a recent backlash toward the ’social networking’ site Facebook. What appears to be a privacy policy may in fact be a default agreement to allow Facebook to exploit users’ personal information.

Facebook Privacy: How About Some Honesty?

You can say what you want about striving for granular this-that-or-the-other, but the truth is we all know what happens when you present people with a 5,830-word privacy policy and 80-gazillion intricate options: They say “screw it” and move on. Or adjust only a small handful of the now-defaulted-to-public-sharing options. And then, voila: Facebook gets to share their data with the world, opening new doors for advertising and profit.

As expressed on this blog before the author has no interest in things like MySpace, Facebook, Twitter and the rest of the ‘wow’ fad sites trying to replace good old-fashioned communication between humans. That would be similar to the gripe on this blog suggesting wireless phones are anything but. Cameras, mobile internet access, bells and whistles, texting but sadly little in the way of reasonable performance for voice communications not to mention competitive pricing.

But then the public gets what the public wants from the market. Anything for any price as long as they think it’s cool. And the free market knows how to make you believe it is. Because most people make it easy for them.

How’s that for honesty?

Alien Smuggling

Posted in Announcement, Terrorism, war, wordpress, Immigration, Tancredo, United States, Law, Justice, Border Control, ICE, Blogs4Borders, 9/11 on May 9th, 2010 by Stanford Matthews

Heads of Canadian alien smuggling organization sentenced

BURLINGTON, Vt. - On May 3, Jose Manuel Galdamez-Serrano, 56, Norvin Gonzalez-Morales, 29, Ruben Damas-Hernandez, 31, and Emmanuel Antonio Galdamez, 27, of Montreal, Quebec, were sentenced in U.S. District Court in Burlington following their guilty pleas to alien smuggling offenses. The defendants were extradited to the United States from Canada to face the charges contained in the indictment.

Chief U.S. District Judge William K. Sessions III sentenced Jose Manual Galdamez-Serrano to 60 months imprisonment and three years of probation following his guilty plea to one count of bringing illegal aliens in the United States for the purpose of commercial advantage and private financial gain. Judge Sessions ordered co-defendants Emmanuel Antonio Galdamez and Ruben Alonzo Damas-Hernandez, each to serve approximately 11 months imprisonment and two years probation following their guilty pleas to conspiracy to smuggle illegal aliens into the United States.

According to court documents, the defendants, collectively known as the Galdamez Organization, conspired to smuggle aliens into the United States from Canada beginning sometime in 2004 until 2007. The Galdamez Organization was primarily consists of family members, with Jose Manuel Galdamez-Serrano as the head, his son Emmanuel Galdamez, and son-in-laws Ruben Damas-Hernandez and Norvin Gonzalez-Morales.

The Galdamez Organization offered aliens smuggling services to other alien smuggling groups and persons who trafficked in human beings and to individuals living in Canada who came from other countries, including but not limited to Central and South America, Pakistan and India, whose destination were the United States. More than 100 aliens were smuggled into the United States by the Galdamez Organization.

The aliens were housed at Galdamez Organization members’ homes while awaiting transportation into the United States. They were later driven to areas near the border between Canada and the United States. Galdamez Organization would guide the aliens across the border by foot and at night or directed them where to cross. Other coconspirators involved were from Maryland, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey and New York.

U.S. Attorney Tristram J. Coffin commended the efforts of special agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the U.S. Border Patrol.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Barbara A. Masterson.

596 Criminal Aliens

Posted in Announcement, Terrorism, war, wordpress, Immigration, Tancredo, United States, Law, Justice, Border Control, ICE, Blogs4Borders, 9/11 on May 8th, 2010 by Stanford Matthews

April 30, 2010

596 criminal aliens arrested in targeted ICE operation throughout the southeastern U.S.
Operation Cross Check yields the largest-ever number of arrests

WASHINGTON — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and its law enforcement partners arrested 596 foreign nationals with criminal records during a three-day enforcement surge throughout the southeastern United States, making it the biggest operation targeting at-large criminal aliens ever carried out by ICE in the region.

During the operation, which concluded late last night, ICE officers and agents worked in teams with the U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and local law enforcement agencies in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Arkansas, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee and Puerto Rico.

Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary for ICE John Morton cited the operation – which involved nearly 400 federal and local law enforcement officers and agents – as another example of ICE’s focus on indentifying and removing criminal aliens from the United States.

“We are a compassionate nation with a proud history of immigration,” said Morton. “But we are also a nation governed by laws specifically designed to protect its citizens and residents. Those who come to the United States to prey upon our neighbors and communities will be prosecuted for their crimes and ultimately returned to their home countries. The results of this week’s operation demonstrate ICE’s commitment to that principle.”

Arrests in Florida and Puerto Rico accounted for the largest number of apprehensions during the operation where a total of 258 aliens were taken into custody. The Atlanta Field Office recorded the next highest number of arrests with 232. The arrestees, 544 men and 55 women, represent 60 different nations, including countries in Latin America, Asia, Europe, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Because of their serious criminal histories and prior immigration arrest records, at least 12 of those arrested during the enforcement surge face federal prosecution. A conviction for felony reentry carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison.

Some of the worst of the offenders caught this week during Operation Cross Check include the following case examples:

  • Oriel Bernard McCarthy, of Jamaica, was arrested Tuesday by the Atlanta Fugitive Operation Team in Jonesboro, Georgia. McCarthy was recently arrested for aggravated assault and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime. McCarthy’s criminal history includes convictions and arrests in four states, including New York, South Carolina, Maryland and Georgia for crimes including felony forgery, stalking, criminal domestic violence, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and manufacture, aggravated assault, sexual abuse and forcible contact, possession of stolen property, and robbery. He was ordered removed by an immigration judge on October 21, 2009 in New York City.
  • Jose Oscar Avalo-Molina, of El Salvador, was arrested Wednesday by the Miami Fugitive Operations Team in Pembroke Park, Florida. Avalo-Molina’s criminal convictions include first degree murder for which he was sentenced to 20 years in prison. On Feb. 28, 1991, he was ordered removed to El Salvador by an Immigration Judge. Avalo-Molina was removed on Aug. 13, 1997 and subsequently illegally re-entered. This case has been accepted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for prosecution for the crime of re-entry after deportation.

Any of the foreign nationals arrested during this operation who have active warrants will be referred to the associated local law enforcement agency and ICE will place detainers to ensure they return to ICE custody following disposition of their criminal cases. Those who have outstanding orders of deportation, or who returned to the United States illegally after being deported, are subject to immediate removal from the country. The remaining individuals are in ICE custody awaiting a hearing before an immigration judge, or pending travel arrangements for removal in the near future.

This week’s special enforcement action was spearheaded by ICE’s Fugitive Operations Program, which is responsible for locating, arresting, and removing at large criminal aliens and immigration fugitives — aliens who have ignored final orders of deportation handed down by the nation’s immigration courts. ICE’s Fugitive Operations Teams give top priority to cases involving aliens who pose a threat to national security and public safety, including members of transnational street gangs and child sex offenders. This week’s operation focused on the apprehension of criminal aliens, which are not necessarily fugitives.

The officers who conducted this week’s special operation received substantial assistance from ICE’s Fugitive Operations Support Center (FOSC) located in South Burlington, Vt. The FOSC conducted exhaustive database checks on the targeted cases to help ensure the viability of the leads and accuracy of the criminal histories. The FOSC was established in 2006 to improve the integrity of the data available on at large criminal aliens and immigration fugitives nationwide. Since its inception, the FOSC has forwarded more than 550,000 case leads to ICE enforcement personnel in the field.

This week’s enforcement operation is just one facet of the Department of Homeland Security’s broader strategy to heighten the federal government’s effectiveness at identifying and removing dangerous criminal aliens from the United States. As a result of this strategy, ICE removed a total of 136,126 criminal aliens from the United States last year, a record number.

Dow Free Fall

Posted in Money Matters, Announcement, wordpress, News Media, Business on May 7th, 2010 by Stanford Matthews

Get a little thrill out of the stock market today did ya? Gee Barry, those nasty boys on Wall Street you keep talkin’ about probably didn’t cause this one. But it IS a safe bet you will try to influence opinion in that direction. Oops, the NYSE does not halt trading after 230pm ET if the market ‘free falls’ like it did today unless the dip is 20% or more.

Ooh, credit is given to ‘automated sell orders’ as reason for the market decline. Some say it is in response to the Greek debt problem going global. Whatever the reason, the liberals’ so-called ‘financial reform’ legislation will do nothing to eliminate wild swings as suggested by the President. But will today’s market activity cause the libs to add market halt requirements as well as limits on automated trading?

Maybe they should just stick to what they’re good at, talking nonsense and inciting the feeble among us, and leave the business of business to those who know something about it.

Here’s an excerpt of the WSJ’s take on today’s market action.

Traders described Thursday’s trading as driven largely by automated sell orders, which piled up after several technical barriers were breached, in particular the 1150 level on the S&P.

“A lot of people thought we had support around that level, so there was some disappointment that it didn’t hold,” said Phil Roth, chief technical analyst at Miller Tabak.

But he added: “The numbers themselves are a little less important than the manner in which the market gets there. The important thing is that we’ve had a very non-traditional bull market, without any major correction or several years of advances alternating with sideways periods. This could be the thing that sets off a real correction, but we’ll have to wait and see.”

Shortly before publishing this post a news report gave credit for the market decline to a mistake that displayed P&G stock down 30% moving the market down 150 points which in turn led to the 988 point drop and 350 point closing decline.

Doolittle’s Raiders

This post is dedicated to those who serve.

The Doolittle Tokyo Raiders Association Reunion was held Friday through Saturday, April 16-18, at the U.S. Air Force Museum abeam Wright Patterson AFB, Dayton, Ohio. There are eight surviving crew members of the 80 who flew on the mission and four attended the reunion, including 88-year-old MSgt. David Thatcher (engineer/gunner - aircraft #7); 90-year-old Lt. Col. Robert Hite (co-pilot of aircraft #16 - the last one off the USS Hornet); 92-year-old Maj. Thomas Griffin (navigator and mission planner - aircraft #9); and 94-year-old Lt. Col. Richard Cole (co-pilot of aircraft #1 - Jimmy Doolittle’s plane).

All four men had numerous public autograph sessions, with hundreds of people in a line snaking through the museum, waiting for every two-hour session. We attended a 45-minute media conference to ask questions and hear their stories on Friday afternoon.

DoolittlesRaidersWiki01w400.jpg

Sixteen B-25B Mitchell bombers were launched from the aircraft carrier USS Hornet deep within enemy waters. The plan called for them to hit military targets in Japan, and land in China. All of the aircraft involved in the bombing were lost and 11 crewmen were either killed or captured. One of these B-25s landed in Soviet territory where its crew remained interned for more than a year. The entire crews of 13 of the 16 aircraft, and all but one of a 14th, returned to the United States or to Allied control. The raid caused little material damage to Japan, but succeeded in its goal of helping American morale. It also caused Japan to withdraw a carrier group from the Indian Ocean to defend their homeland and contributed to Japan’s decision to attack Midway. Up to 250,000 Chinese were killed by Japanese retaliatory measures.
