Our TroopsThe extreme peaceniks and others expressing less venomous opposition to the Iraq war often begin their arguments with reference to inherent characteristics of war as their central theme. Aside from the obvious death and destruction that accompanies armed conflict, they stress the loss of troops and civilians as their largest concern. But they will never accept the fact that this same expression of opposition has prolonged the war in Iraq by strengthening the determination of the enemy. In other words, opposition prolonging the war shares responsibility for the death toll that the anti-war crowd views with such disdain. How’s that for irony?

Each day that politicians seek political cover on the war in Iraq from these same anti-war critics also causes more loss of life. A prudent and practical human being regardless of ideology would sacrifice their own selfish interest in favor of the valiant contributions by those actually at risk of death. To express the realities of politics is simply more rhetoric and of little consolation to those who shoulder the real burden. If you are not now nor have ever been in Iraq, shut the hell up and get this thing done so those who are can satisfy the demands of both sides of the issue by achieving victory in Iraq and coming home that much sooner.

Illegal ImmigrationTo a much less dramatic issue but with equal potential for serious injury to the United States is illegal immigration. The reason for addressing it at the same time as the Iraq war is the focus afforded these two issues will distract from attending to other matters until resolved. The sympathy argument for illegals is another ploy that compels politicians to seek political cover rather than face the reality that this is simply an economic or financial issue.

The open borders crowd claims that illegals are merely seeking a better life is really describing a better income. The business community’s scare tactics about economic disaster without illegals is really describing lower costs and higher profits by exploiting artificial wage competition. Trying to solve the world’s problems by eliminating border and immigration control only exacerbates the symtoms.

Not securing the borders or controlling immigration is a national security risk we cannot afford. Allowing amnesty for lawbreakers only encourages its continuation. Not enforcing existing laws is a violation of the oath of office of all or most elected and appointed officials in the executive branch. Both sides of the issue, again, can be satisfied by effective control and management of the flow of people in and out of this country. Conceding to the demands of selfish special interest is not an option. Common sense demands this issue be solved now. The guiding force should be the rule of law not the whim of personal preference.

As a personal note, if you truly believe open borders are a good thing, I suggest this. Leave all your locks unlocked 24/7 from now on. Then let us know how long it takes before you experience something really bad. It is nice to think the best of people but that does not suggest ignoring the worst. They invented security because both exist.

Amnesty MoneyIt may sound outragious to the casual observer or typical apathetic or bleeding heart version of American, but the laws against treason should have a section that addresses politicians who sell this country by accepting money from every special interest and who do their bidding regardless of the negative impact on this nation.

A report from Politico has it right and wrong. The report describes the power and influence, meaning political contributions, etc., of the ‘goliath’ supporting amnesty in immmigration legislation. Senate bill 1348 is the culmination of Harry Reid’s push via Kyl, Kennedy and others to circumvent existing legislation that has been rendered useless through the Bush Administration and others before them refusing to enforce immigration and border control.

Amnesty lobby is immigration Goliath

Nearly every major corporation, trade association, union and civil rights group has a dog in this fight — but most of them seek slightly different things. Companies and trade associations mainly seek reforms in the green card and visa process, while most unions want changes in the guest worker program; civil rights groups press for a path to citizenship above all. The challenge, lobbyists say, remains for these groups to band together to thwart anti-immigration groups like the Federation for American Immigration Reform, NumbersUSA and others trying to fan the flames of grass-roots angst against illegal — and legal — immigration.

The Politico report describes the ‘goliath’ push for easing unenforced immigration laws against what it called the grassroots angst against illegal and legal immigration. That part is wrong. It is not angst. And it is not against legal immigration.

Some new direction

There are seven immigration ‘reform’ bills on the active legislation list at the Senate. This is just a dog and pony show to mask the elimination of immigration and border control as ‘’immigration reform’. The middle class will pay for the crushing burden of opening the immigration flood gates while the politicians and corporate interests line their pockets with the profit from illegal immigration in the form of cheap labor and campaign contributions.

The result will include an increased risk in attack by terrorists that is being sanctioned by political and corporate wrongdoing that explains the ealier suggestion of expanding the laws against treason in this country to include this type of criminal behavior.

Nation of Sheep

But the vast majority of Americans have not the vision to see what is being done to them and have developed such an iron clad shield of apathy they simply nod in agreement and continue to bend over and let it happen again. To which the powerful interests are unable to ignore the opportunity to abuse it again. The few individuals and ‘grassroots’ groups that continue to oppose such travesties are mostly ignored and the cycle repeats itself.

While some of us lobby our representatives and get involved in local, state or national efforts to thwart the open borders crowd and other threats to this nation, the rest of you sit idly by with a front row seat watching the ease with which special interest steals the country from under you.

Reid: Consenso bipartidista está surgiendo para cambiar de rumbo en Irak

Friday, May 11, 2007

Friday, May 11, 2007

The Immigration Scam

As a result of our contacting all 100 members of the United States Senate this weekend, this post on immigration is offered. We expressed our ‘encouragement’ for Congress to do the right thing on immigration. If you cannot guess what items we urged them to properly address and solve, then there would be no point is us telling you now. That is because you would probably not agree or understand the need to protect this country by proper national defense, security, guarding of the borders and immigration control and corrective action. The following is part of our take on the privilege rather than any right to enter the United States.

KennedyWhy do some people believe that every person who enters this country illegally has this country’s best interests in mind? How stupid is that? It is equally stupid to think that this is not what open borders proponents think. Why? For all the wailing and gnashing of teeth over the assumed plight of illegal immigrants, those who favor amnesty and other perks for illegals continue to claim they are only looking for a better life. And how did they come to that conclusion?

Did anyone from the open borders crowd interview all the millions of illegals in this country? Even if that had happened, how would one draw a valid conclusion on the intentions of an illegal immigrant? If a person has violated this country’s federal laws to enter this country, how do you know they won’t continue to violate this country’s laws? If a person is here illegally, they have already proven their willingness to violate the law to accomplish their objectives.

Harry ReidThe proponents of open and uncontrolled borders continue to describe this country as a nation of immigrants as a central argument for their position. Does that mean those who immigrated here before, legally, and those who were born here from legal immigrants, are required to surrender the protection and welfare of this nation to uncontrolled borders and immigration?

If people are unable to achieve their goals as citizens of another country, does that mean the United States is responsible for solving their problems? If a citizen of another country decides to enter the US because they find their own country unsuitable, how does that show that they will be a valuable asset to this country? If they make no attempt to correct the problems in their native country, how does that translate into a criteria to admit them to this country? There is no guarantee that immigrants will be worthy citizens when they come here legally. How does the open borders crowd determine that those here illegally equal or surpass the integrity of a person worthy of the privilege? They can’t. There in lies the danger.

Sen Jon KylSlow, methodical, managed and controlled immigration is necessary for protecting and securing this country while honoring the time tested tradition of an immigrant nation. Abandoning those safeguards because some criticize the time required to enter this country legally, is all the evidence you should need to understand the fallacy of the open borders crowd. Protecting this country trumps the interest of anyone wanting to enter this country. Saying immigrants have rights greater than the need to protect this country is more evidence to deny entry. Entering this country is a privilege not a right. To demand entry as a right is the strongest reason to deny entry because the entrant or applicant has put their own interests above that of this country.

The current immigration problem needs to be corrected as well as returning this country to the condition it enjoyed before millions of illegal immigrants were allowed to enter. Then it will be necessary to manage and control immigration, as well as national defense, security and border control to accommodate the safe, fair and responsible flow of persons in and out of the country. The process requires an approach defined by the privilege of coming to the US rather than an imagined right to come here. The protection of this country and its citizens trumps all or the entire discussion is moot as it would precipitate the end of this nation. And end to this nation is NOT something a responsible citizen would recommend.

Is This Country for Sale?

Weighing PoliticsThis is not the time to rely on elected officials to protect this country or enforce the rule of law. Congress will again take up the issue of illegal immigration. Recent reports indicate failure of Congress to pass HR4437 in 2005 was the result of a plan to appear concerned about illegal immigration while knowing the House bill would never pass in the Senate. Again, the Senate is the focal point of deciding this nation’s course on illegal immigration. This chapter on illegal immigration comes complete with typical back room deals as shown in the following article.

Senators are Working Quietly on An Immigration Reform Bill Likely to Feature a Guest Worker Program
By Michael Coleman
Albuquerque Journal
Wednesday, May 9, 2007
WASHINGTON— A bipartisan group of a dozen senators— including Pete Domenici of New Mexico— is working behind closed doors to craft a new immigration reform proposal that could have an expanded guest worker program as its centerpiece.

Immigration EnforcementSenator Kyl is among a small group of Senators who would have you believe he is in favor of strict immigration enforcement. If Kyl is ‘working’ with the White House and Edward Kennedy on immigration, what are the chances that again, the results from Congress will do nothing to stop the flow of illegal immigration? This may highlight the the reluctance of Congress to admit that sanctions against employers would deport illegals by attrition.

Sen. Kyl guiding immigration reforms
DANIEL GONZALEZ AND MIKE MADDEN
The Arizona Republic
Sen. Jon Kyl is leading the Republican charge in Washington to broker a passable bipartisan immigration bill.
It is a role that would have seemed almost unfathomable a year ago, when Arizona’s other Republican senator, John McCain, was controlling the reins and Kyl was backing a rigid approach to reform.
But, for the past few months, Kyl has been working closely with the White House and Sen. Edward Kennedy, the Democrats’ main point man on immigration reform, to come up with a bill that will pass muster with immigration hard-liners and those who favor a temporary-worker program and a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants.
Kyl’s emergence as the key Republican negotiator on immigration reform at a time when Democrats control Congress seems out of step with the enforcement-first approach he took last year. But his clout among conservatives is precisely why he is leading the charge.

Follow the MoneyAnother example of a contradiction in support of immigration enforcement comes from Senator Jeff Sessions. Requiring illegals to return home before re-entering the US legally can be circumvented by a guest worker program as is part of the problem with illegal immigration now. If you do not enforce laws, having them is of little significance. Perhaps Ms Sessions is relying on the public’s short memory. He may think if they pass something that sounds tough and is rendered useless over time, political success will be in hand. It is not like that hasn’t worked before. Immigration laws passed in 1986 and later, as well as all immigration laws, have been ignored for years.

Sessions supports immigration plan
Friday, May 11, 2007
By SEAN REILLY
WASHINGTON — With lawmakers again squaring off over changes to the nation’s immigration laws, U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions on Thursday tentatively backed a blueprint that calls for millions of illegal immigrants to return home while urging creation of a tightly structured temporary worker program.

To those who believe in open borders or allowing illegal immigrants to remain in this country, the following article will probably fall on deaf ears. For the reality impaired, a reminder that not all who cross the border are innocent and without effective control of immigration, reducing the number of threats crossing the border along with the honest immigrants is futile.

Senate Urged to Rethink Immigration Bill After NJ Arrests
By Susan Jones
CNSNews.com Senior Editor
May 09, 2007
(CNSNews.com) - The arrest of six foreign-born Muslims accused of plotting to attack Fort Dix, N.J., should stop the Senate from producing an immigration bill that includes a “pathway to citizenship” or any other let-them-stay-here program, said a group that strongly opposes “amnesty” for illegal aliens.

Corporate InterestAnother reminder of the practical side for all in favor of uncontrolled immigration is displayed in the following link. Most of what immigration is about is not the altruistic motive of freedom and democracy. The United States and the lax enforcement of law or liberal policies on immigration provide financial opportunity for all involved. While life long citizens continue to take things in stride and for granted, newer arrivals are actively supporting agendas that will affect this country’s future in alarming ways. As at risk as this country is from lack of national security, those alarming changes are already here.

Coveted Hispanic vote is state’s sleeping giant
Ray Hagar (RHAGAR@RGJ.COM)
RENO GAZETTE-JOURNAL
May 9, 2007
Elvira Diaz, owner of the Sierra Bakery in Carson City, admires the spirit of the people who marched for immigration reform on May 1 for the past two years.
Yet Diaz, who actively supports Democratic U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton for president, is clear in her message for other Hispanics: If the Hispanic community wants to be a force in Nevada politics, they can’t just march, they also must vote.
“Many of the Hispanics who are here have come from Mexico or other Latin American countries,” Diaz said. “There, the (political) system doesn’t work as good as it does here. It is really important to register to vote and participate in the system. They need to see that the system works, and that will motivate them.”

The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), the Coalition Against Illegal Immigration, Blogs for Borders, Americans for Legal Immigration (ALIPAC) are a few of the organizations formed to oppose the problems of illegal immigration and a return to sensible legal immigration. And there are representatives at all levels of government who express their concerns over the danger of illegal immigration as shown below.

Enforcement of law, not amnesty, needed for illegal immigration
May. 10, 2007 01:49 PM
I am disgusted by Congressman Jeff Flake and Luis Gutierrez’s betrayal to America and their constituents by proposing the Security Through Regularized and a Vibrant Economy Act - in other words, “cheap labor.”

Think! Will the voices opposed to illegal immigration and lax security and enforcement be enough to protect this country? Most arguments in favor of open borders, increased visa quotas, guest worker programs are centered around the proponents’ economic ambitions. Money is central to this issue as it is in most others. Corporate interests increase their profits with cheaper labor. Illegal immigrants increase their options for generating income, legal and illegal. Businesses see profit in a new market of illegals. Politicians see votes and lobbyist money. Taxpayers see another drain on public money. The cost of illegal immigration is shouldered by the public while the profits of illegal immigration are distributed among its proponents.

Taking open borders to its extreme would imply that this country, or any country, has the ability to absorb an unlimited number of immigrants without any adverse effects. Taking immigration control to its extreme would imply closed borders are the solution. Neither case is sensible and the solution remains in between the extremes. It is however possible to return to where the country was before allowing illegal immigration to advance to its present condition. Secured borders, effective immigration control, no amnesty or visa increase or guest worker program with severe employer sanctions for violations would restore this country’s national security. At that point, sensible adjustments to address any deficiencies in the system could be considered. To do anything less is irresponsible. The demand for immigration should not dictate security policy for this nation.

Lax immigration enforcement only makes this country a bigger target. Ignoring security for financial gain implies that once again, this country is for sale. We can recover from errors to the side of caution. We may not recover from errors in the opposite direction.

Bush Illegal Amnesty Plan

Posted in Bush, wordpress, Immigration, Kyl, Border Control on May 8th, 2007 by Stanford Matthews

Outcome of Bush Illegal Amnesty Plan Appears to Rest With Kyl

WASHINGTON, May 7 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The Bush Administration,
together with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), appear to be
Illegal Immigrationmaking one final run at approving a massive illegal alien amnesty and guest worker program. With some notable dissenters within the Democratic ranks, and the certainty that any guest worker amnesty proposal will be wildly unpopular with voters, Reid needs to cobble together enough Republican votes to pass such a bill and to provide him, and his slim majority, political cover.
To satisfy Reid’s demands for political cover, the Bush White House,
which has set passage of a guest worker amnesty as the final domestic
priority of this administration, has designated Arizona Senator Jon Kyl as
the man in charge of rounding up enough Senate Republicans to push the plan
over the finish line. Kyl, who has been both a loyal ally of the president
as well as an outspoken opponent of amnesty for illegal aliens, is reported
to be working feverishly to craft “compromise” legislation that allows
millions of illegal aliens to remain in this country, while allowing
lawmakers and the administration to deny that it is an amnesty.
“Jon Kyl is being placed in an impossible position that can neither
serve the nation’s interests, nor his own,” observed Dan Stein, president
of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR). “When the
president of the United States taps you on the shoulder and asks you to be
his point man, it’s hard to refuse. But at the same time, Sen. Kyl’s record
makes it very clear that he knows that no matter how you dress it up, any
legislation that allows illegal aliens to remain in this country is an
amnesty.”
The last gasp effort to enact a guest worker amnesty program that Kyl
has been asked to head up comes as a new poll shows that President Bush’s
public approval rating has sunk to a historic low of 28 percent. “Sen. Kyl
has been among the most outspoken and eloquent opponents of amnesty for
long time. Unlike President Bush, he fully understands the dangers of
rewarding people who break the law and the staggering costs any amnesty
program would likely entail,” noted Stein. “Clearly there is no public
interest justification for advancing an eleventh hour amnesty bill, and
given the president’s abysmal standing with the voters it is hard to
understand what political benefit can be gained from reviving a moribund
guest worker amnesty bill.
“Sen. Kyl has been a principled national leader and vocal proponent of
enforcing our immigration laws, not rewarding immigration law breakers,”
Stein continued. “While there is no national support for a massive illegal
alien guest worker amnesty bill, there is across the board support for the
sort of immigration enforcement measures that Kyl has promoted throughout
his years in Congress. The brief window of opportunity that now presents
itself would be best used to enact legislation that enhances our nation’s
ability to control illegal immigration, rather than some nuanced plan that
everyone will readily identify as an amnesty.”

The HouseSo how did the United States Congress do in the first month of the 110th session? You be the judge. First, a little review of the fact that posts here have sometimes asked why we get so focused on what Congress does. After all, they legislate. That’s it. They legislate. The can pass laws. Whatever the House passes must be passed in the Senate also. So both Houses of Congress must pass the same version of a bill before it can become law. Then it goes to the President. He can sign it into law. He can veto it and send it back to Congress. He can pocket-veto at the end of the session. Or he can pretty much ignore it and it becomes law. All you expert legal types out there, feel free to refute this if you must.

Next, Congressional action is either a bill or resolution. Most of the time, resolutions are pretty much useless to the ordinary citizen. There is one example this past month that is not useless. It should not have to come to this but usually does. A joint resolution is similar to a bill. The one last month was for appropriations. You know, to keep the government operating until Congress and the President figure out what they’re doing.

Party AnimalsSo six bills and one joint resolution have the term “on passage” next to them in the voting record in the House. Being that it is joint and includes the Senate, that’s the only thing showing up on their completed list. Then there are the six bills. You’ll remember them from the daily reminder of the 100 hour agenda. Here’s a take on that.

On January 9, 2007, House of Representatives 1 or HR1 was passed.
This is to implement 9/11 Commission items.

On January 10, 2007, HR2 was passed.
This is for increasing minimum wage over 26 months.

On January 11, 2007, HR3 was passed.
This is to “enhance” stem cell research.

On January 12, 2007, HR4 was passed.
This allows government to negotiate medicare drug prices.

On January 17, 2007, HR5 was passed.
This lowers interest rates on government backed student loans

On January 18, 2007, HR6 was passed.
This is an act for alternative energy creation. That’s quite an act.

On January 19, 2007, HR475 was passed to revise the House Page Board.

The above items are what the House passed. The Senate passed the one joint resolution with the House. And one item became law that was posted here earlier. It is for renaming a National Recreation Area.

The SenateOne law was passed to rename a park. And the other bills have many hurdles to cross before they can become law. Even if they become law there is no guarantee they will have any positive effects. No one, with any regularity, will follow up on them. So the Congress has done nothing for one month. They have solved nothing. There is only one item as law and it is not critical. 21 Senators are worried about 2008 due to re-election. Other Senators are worried about running for President. And the rest have passed one joint resolution and participated in renaming a park.

We would be better off paying more attention to the remainder of government. At the federal level at least, nothing productive is happening in the legislative branch. Ask anyone from the House or Senate if they care to dispute this. The new Democratic majority are developing disharmony among themselves as are the GOP members. If any of you still hold out optimism for the 110th Congress, good for you. Currently, the chances of Congress contributing to the overall good of the country are slim. That is unless they change their ways. And they will not.

Bush, Mexico’s Calderon to work on immigration
Reuters -
… W. Bush and Mexican President-elect Felipe Calderon
pledged on Thursday to work together for a comprehensive
solution to curb illegal immigration from Mexico …

If it was not a plot by both Houses of Congress to introduce
HR4437 knowing it would never get through the Senate, then
the fine new Senate of the 110th Congress should be able to
finish strong reform starting in January 2007. Similar to the
fact that Immigration Reform of 1986 was never enforced, in
their grand wisdom, politicians have improved on their deceit
by creating a better strategy. Work together just long enough
to satisfy mutual goals and fool the public in believing you really
give a damn. Like Democrats conceding Presidential 2004
elections by nominating John Kerry when John Edwards wsa a
much more viable candidate. Kerry was a sacrificial lamb and
the only one who did not know it was Kerry. He still doesn’t.

We hope all you smiling Democrats are enjoying your victories.
We hope all you Republicans are understanding your arrogance
that led to this. And we hope you both as well as all of America
is prepared for a continuation of porous borders, unrestricted
immigration and a complete breakdown of national security.

If you haven’t noticed, the resignation of Secretary Donald
Rumsfeld and previously mentioned items absolutely elated the
Muslim world. Al-Jazeera and the rest have been celebrating
since November 7th, 2006. Thank you one and all. NOT!

Vote for Tancredo

6th District

Tom Tancredo wasn’t the first
to wave the flag on illegal
immigration, but he’s been among
the most relentless. (That’s
good.) Unfortunately, he’s also
been among the most unyielding.
(That’s bad.)

By his willingness to sound the alarm, the Republican who holds
Colorado’s 6th Congressional District seat has become the face of the
anti-illegal movement. Now it’s time to achieve a solution, and Tancredo
can play a leading role if he has the nerve to see it through.

To the fine voters of the Colorado 6th Congressional District this advice
is offered. Do not vote for anyone but Tom Tancredo. The reason for
this advice is the pathetic so-called endorsement by the Denver Post that
puts it all in perspective. They endorse with trepidation which is equal to
no endorsement at all It’s an incredible endorsement sham favoring Winter
who will spend you into education ruin and give amnesty to every illegal
immigrant.
If you have read or if you do read this piece by the Denver Post it will be
clear to you. It is in the best interest of any newspaper’s profit margin to
be pro amnesty and pro education spending. They will allow immigration
of any kind to extend the profit motive of corporate America who owns
the media. They will also spend us into default through education policy
that has no connection to performance or actually educating America’s
students. Once again, we urge you to vote for Tom Tancredo. If you are
wondering why a website with no obvious connection to Colorado would
take the time to promote Tom Tancredo it is because many people across
the country appreciate the efforts of Tom Tancredo to support the rule of
law and oppose uncontrolled immigration. This site is not payed for by any
political organization nor otherwise beholding to anyone. Once again, your
vote for Tom Tancredo is appreciated. We also favor James Sensenbrenner
of WI, who along with Mr Tancredo have done some good work. In addition
to immigration, they are two of eight Republicans who voted against the
COPE Act. Something we find equally compelling as reason to vote
for them. Enough said.

Issues Are Lost on the Mid-terms

As of 130am this morning, AP’s political news headlines confirmed an earlier post has it right on the fact that politicians are off topic amid the Mark Foley story press domination. The first headline has Foley stating he was abused by a clergyman. True or not it is off topic and hinders the discussion of top issues near the mid term election. Since both parties are impotent, they likely prefer Foley in the news rather than themselves. The media likes the Foley story so they can increase sales and ratings and whatever else due to the public’s insatiable appetite for sleaze.

Bush’s continued campaigning is the next headline that indicates he does this despite all the ethics questions. Since he is still pushing the war on terror aspect of his focus, one wonders if he expects to gain anything from it other than ignoring the war in Iraq? Is he trying to shore up the Republican base or is his appeal to independents and, God forbid, Democrats? The probability is that fear and terror are polling results and they have little else to hang their hats on.

Hastert refusing to resign is just more Foley fallout. The next headline moves to California state politics and the Governor’s race. Who cares unless you are in California? And another Foley distraction headline to make the case we had it right earlier as the Dems are using it for making their case we should vote out Republicans because they have nothing else to offer. What’s worse, Foley’s foibles or the Dems using it for lack of campaign strategy?

More discussion on whether Rice and Tenet had a discussion so more blame can be distributed. Another distraction but a more logical one. The only near funny distraction is Dems banging Frist over giving up on Afghanistan to let the Taliban into the government. How priceless is that? Kerry urges people in Ohio to vote Democrat. This simply indicates that Kerry is still stupid, politically speaking.

Another Foley reference in a headline and the last entry has Bush calling for a school violence summit. No discussion on improving prosecution of the war in either country in the middle east. No discussion of Israel, Lebanon, Hezbollah or much else besides North Korea on the foreign relations front. Nothing on national or border security. No talk on port security or immigration. Health care and education have taken their reserved back seat. Campaign reform and the lack of ethics in lobbying and fund raising would be a downer near an election. Things equally not to be mentioned near election time are ethics, oversight, reform, disclosure or any of a million other items we need to fix as a country. Certainly we would not want to have a discussion on those items before an election. Let’s wait until after the election when we can resume payoffs, extortion, theft and other methods for changing minds. Add to that boning up on the political skill known as lying to the public to finish the task. America, what a concept.

Immigration Reform at the Polls

Some immigration news provided as elections near.

RALEIGH — Curbing illegal immigration is among the five issues that North Carolinians say will most influence whom they vote for in the election Nov. 7, a survey by the Elon University Poll shows.More than 12 percent of poll respondents said immigration was the most important issue facing the state. When asked which issues would most influence their votes for Congress, immigration ranked with the economy, the war in Iraq, national security and health care.

Foreigners Without Documents Say They May Leave Out of Fear

At the Bestway Supermarket on Elden Street, where shoppers browse to merengue music and signs touting the specials are in Spanish and English, Latino customers say they don’t know much about Herndon’s new mayor or Town Council. But they do say the town’s Hispanic community was buzzing last week with the news that those in charge, whoever they are, want police to become la migra, federal immigration agents.
Congressional work is incomplete

WASHINGTON - As Congress began its final week before the midterm elections, a veteran Senate chairman was asked the question ricocheting all over town:Will Congress finish its work before lawmakers leave?

“No, just leave,” Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., said with a grin.

Not facing re-election this year, the Senate Judiciary Committee chairman could afford such candor. But the Republican incumbents reapplying for their jobs in the House and Senate will have some explaining to do on the campaign trail.

They cannot blame all the unfinished business on Democrats, Not with one of their own in the White House. Or with 11 years of uninterrupted GOP control of the House. Or with the Senate, for all but two of those years, run by Republicans.

With all the corporate influence through lobbyists, both parties
wanting cheap votes from anyone and anyway, the American
public is probably screwed after the mid terms regardless of the
outcome. The political process in this country is so out of line
that one election won’t change it. But if the voting public would
remove all or most incumbents and do it every election at least
term limits would be working. Then maybe politicians would
start listening to the public and we could slowly change things
for the better. But that may only be a dream. Sad if it is.

Sen. Kyl : Trolling with the Party Line

A study of Senator Kyl’s editorials
By BRUCE WEST
August 16, 2006
Arizona Senator John Kyl regularly sends a form-letter to newspapers
that is printed as an editorial “Special to the Examiner,” in this paper.
I decided to take a look at one of these. Kyl tells us that the Republican-
inspired “pro-growth tax policies” have resulted in an “economy that is
growing at a torrid pace.”

from MoreWhat.com staff:
Senator Kyl, what planet are you from?
Worker productivity is up, wages are down.
Unemployment is down according to President Bush, Speaker Hastert,
Majority Leader Boehner, Majority Whip Blunt. Check the damn figures
from your own Labor Department. We have them here (click)
Unemployment has been higher than when the Dems were in it.
The whole damn time. Stop lying!! You wonder why people are mad?
So now we add Kyl to the list of those who can’t read. Not only this but
the market indexes have essentially been at the same level since 2001.
Prices are the only thing rising. Inflation data is crap. Every product
and service has gone up higher than the inflation rate. Explain that.
