For Clinton, 2000 Fund-Raising Controversy Lingers

This blog began following campaign irregularities of Hillary Rodham Clinton on September 5th with a review of an action brought by Judicial Watch based on HRC’s idea to take donors on Commerce Department trade missions for contributions. This was during former President Bill Clinton’s administration. (Judicial Watch v Dept of Commerce)
The Commerce Dept took the fall for Hillary Rodham Clinton to end the proceeding and pay Judicial Watch nearly one million dollars in legal fees with taxpayer money. That’s how far back the Clinton campaign cash has been tainted. Maybe it goes back further but it certainly is coming to light again with more recent events that may not go away as easy as other Clinton misdeeds.
Of course there’s the Norman Hsu incident in which the Clinton clan contends they did not know Hsu was a criminal. Talk about the suspension of disbelief. You would have to be deaf, dumb and blind to miss that yet Hillary Rodham Clinton claims she sees no evil, hears no evil….. but she does speak evil. She claims to be convinced General Petraeus did not present an honest report on Iraq, a man with outstanding credentials, yet she is unaware of Norman Hsu’s criminal record. Right.
First she was going to return Hsu’s $23,000 contribution and keep the rest of the $850,000 bundle. Then some talk about it going to charity, then back to Hsu and back and forth. Finally, she was going to return it to the individual donors but ask them to give it back to her. What’s the point other than Hillary has no shame when it comes to collecting cash. But then why stop there?

LOS ANGELES — As Sen. Hillary Clinton grapples with the burgeoning scandal surrounding disgraced fund-raiser Norman Hsu, she can’t quite shake a fund-raising controversy from her 2000 Senate campaign.
Mrs. Clinton’s entanglement with a thrice-convicted felon named Peter Paul is proof of how long campaign-finance problems can haunt a public official. Mr. Paul became a problem for Mrs. Clinton when his criminal past became public shortly after he helped organize and finance a gala Hollywood fund-raiser for her in August 2000.
• The Issue: A fund-raising scandal from 2000 continues to dog Hillary Clinton.
• Sound Familiar? The entanglement with Peter Paul foreshadows events involving fund-raiser Norman Hsu.
• What’s Next: A court is to decide if Mrs. Clinton is reinstated as a defendant in the long legal battle with Mr. Paul.
With the Judicial Watch v Dept of Commerce campaign issue of about 1999, the 2000 Paul case and Norman Hsu, Hillary Rodham Clinton may not be able to find the escape hatch this time. And there are still more questionable events to be investigated while she tries to dodge the consequences of her actions on the latest revelations. This may be the beginning of the devastating campaign problem mentioned by her strategist Mark Penn. That every campaign will face a race ending event before an election.

Oh for Pete’s sake. The cash was funneled to the shrill one from who know where for who know what favors.
We’ve seen this same movie over and over with the Clintons.
Will the NYT or WaPo try to get to the bottom of the story like they did with Abramoff? (rhetorical question - we know the answer)
