Gingrich, Romney blast immigration plan…
Described as one of the toughest illegal immigration laws in the US, strict immigration controls will become effective on July 1, 2007. Governor Perdue states the problem requires a national solution, a subtle hint to the reluctance of Washington to respond in a manner that eliminates the burden on state and local governments. The so-called bipartisan compromise reached this week in Washington between the hidden agendas of President Bush, the Senate and others was criticized by Gingrich and Romney at the GOP convention in Georgia. Neither side of the issue is comfortable with the pitiful excuse for immigration legislation.
The words bipartisan or compromise or reform always indicate political cover, special interest, conflict of interest or just plain bad legislation that will annoy everyone. Except for the problem of state versus federal issues in lawmaking, it may be better for the local and state governments to pass their own legislation on immigration issues. The US has had legislation to cover these problems for years This is just another case of trying to appease the public with more legislation that will never be enforced and will never solve anything other than allowing the scam to continue.
