Martinez takes flak on immigration

Another bit of proof that S. 1348 is a big mess when it comes to immigration legislation. Senator Mel Martinez is receiving criticism from the amnesty crowd when he is for the Senate bill and believes in amnesty and a path to citizenship for illegals. What the hell does the amnesty crowd want? You want amnesty but a bill providing it is criticized. Another reason to leave the legislation alone and simply enforce the laws we have.

Allowing illegal immigrants to remain in this country does nothing but encourage more law breaking, not to mention ignoring the risk of millions of people as an unknown quantity. The borders must be secure. Immigration must be strictly controlled and limited since it is obvious being generous encourages abuse.

Martinez takes flak on immigration

WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. Mel Martinez is the man-in-the-middle on one of the most explosive issues in Congress: immigration.
As general chairman of the Republican Party, Martinez’s stand has been criticized by angry and vociferous Republicans - including some GOP presidential candidates - who characterize the immigration compromise bill worked out with Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., as “amnesty.”
The Cuban-born Martinez, the only immigrant in the Senate, has been singled out by pro-immigration groups for supporting a more restrictive measure than he championed last year.
