Rep. Tancredo Offers D.C. Vacation for Votes in Iowa Straw Poll
Tuesday , July 31, 2007 AP
WASHINGTON —
Republican presidential candidate Tom Tancredo promised a package of gifts, including an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington and a tour of the Capitol, to anyone who brought 25 people to the GOP straw poll in Iowa on Aug. 11.Scrambling to explain, the Colorado lawmaker’s campaign said it was just a spelling error.
It is a rather insignificant report but has some entertainment value. What’s wrong with encouraging people to attend the Iowa Straw Poll? It is better than states offering lottery tickets to encourage people to vote. And you can count on Tom Tancredo not to offer amnesty to pander for votes. Apparently his encouragement was either misunderstood or a little carelessly presented. The brief report at Fox News does little to clear up the matter. And offering this post only keeps it out there a little longer. But hey, show up with a bunch of people at the Iowa Straw Poll and you can probably rub elbows with the candidates and work out your own deal for dinner and plan a Washington tour that offends no one or breaks no rules.
