Politics of a Long Season

Statue of LibertyThe past political week of events given in no particular order.  Clinton and Obama put on a vote gathering extravaganza in Selma.  According to Rush Limbaugh each candidate developed a Southern accent for the occasion.  Tiger Hillary has regularly changed her stripes since beginning her campaign.  Like water off a duck’s back, Obama has so far survived implications on the accuracy of his account of his own history and being the black descendant of slave owners.

CPAC provided humor, indignation and surprises all around for conservatives.  Ann Coulter was Ann Coulter.  Mitt Romney won a straw poll and McCain ignored the whole thing.  Giuliani made a last minute appearance and Gingrich continues to poll well for not being a candidate.  And John Edwards should thank Ann Coulter for raising campaign contributions for him.  Maybe Marcotte, McEwan, Coulter and Maher can put together a road show.  It could be promoted like all star wrestling.

GAO chief David Walker was met with mixed reviews as he took his road show on 60 Minutes.  His story will not receive the same publicity or produce the same outrage as the Walter Reed story.  It may be as critical in terms of a need for attention but is not something Americans want hear.  If the public were to get outraged by it they should save some of the anger for Congress.  The same people who criticize those managing Walter Reed for being negligent in Congressional hearings will avoid discussing their own complicity in such matters.  Could something that big and that wrong exist without Congress knowing about it?  There is about as much chance of that as them not knowing about the Congressional Page scandal.

That’s it for today.  This may be one of those rare occasions with only one daily post.  Other projects are calling.
