Since the New Deal and FDR at least liberals have been intent on running your life. Social Security was to cover retirement for old age in the form of payments for income to those of retirement age. LBJ’s Great Society gave us Medicare and Medicaid in the sixties to cover a limited number of recipients and has grown to an unmanageable size and expense due to liberal meddling over all these many years.

And now Steny Hoyer wants to reassure you Democrats have voluntarily held hearings on your behalf to reform healthcare since 2007.

House Democrats Lay Groundwork for Health Care Reform with 79 Hearings Since 2007

Reforming America’s health care system has been a long-standing priority for the Democrats in Congress. For over two years, Congressional Democrats have been laying the groundwork for this year’s reform debate, with House Committees holding 79 bipartisan hearings to thoroughly explore this complex issue.

What has Steny Hoyer left out?

On the House Ways and Means Committees’ own site, which is included in Hoyer’s list of hearings, one item from the US Constitution explaining an obligation to hold hearings Hoyer characterized as a voluntary effort by Democrats.

In addition, Article I, Section 8, of the Constitution of the United States provides the following:

The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and…To borrow Money on the credit of the United States.

Government health care programs involve spending taxpayer money. Below another excerpt outlining obligations of Ways and Means to hold hearings.

Clause 4(f) requires the Committee on Ways and Means to include in its annual report to the Committee on the Budget a specific recommendation, made after holding public hearings, as to the appropriate level of the public debt that should be set forth in the concurrent resolution on the budget.

With some limitations, the item below also outlines obligations of Ways and Means on matters of healthcare.

(9) National Social Security (except health care and facilities programs that are supported from general revenues as opposed to payroll deductions and except work incentive programs).

You can connect the dots and understand Hoyer’s bloviating is misguided and that other hearings on his list are required as well. But he would really like you to believe liberals have your best interests at heart to the degree they volunteer to address YOUR healthcare. What they really do is attempt to control your healthcare and have you pay for their agenda.
