Talk of Resurrecting Immigration Bill Begins as Autopsy Goes On
It cannot be stressed enough that all concerned citizens need to continue applying pressure on Congress so they might actually get the message. Hundreds of thousands of calls and emails got their attention and may be responsible for the near death of amnesty. However, politicians also rely on the public’s short term memory. They know if they play games long enough, y’all will give up. Another part of this that cannot be oversold is the fact that since the midterms both major parties realize the publc is angry. A window exists between now and the end of the 2008 election cycle to continue to impress upon both the legislative and executive branch that what the public thinks really does matter.
If the pressure is relaxed then the politicians will continue to ignore public sentiment. It would be an unfortunate mistake to miss this golden opportunity to regain the respect of Washington and return their decisionmaking strategy to one of acting in the best interest of American citizens and not special interest money. Keep up the pressure on this issue and al the others. Now is the best time to make a difference and benefit from a rare situation that puts voters in the driver’s seat. Think about it. Then act.
