Only expected to be in office until some time this summer, but you at least have to give Tony Blair credit for consistency. A case can be made that Tony Blair was treated differently in matters of international politics than Margaret Thatcher. Reagan and Thatcher were the international tag team of the eighties. Like most, not everything they did was correct. But the outcomes usually were.
Tony Blair and George Bush have been criticized considerably more and their efforts were not that different. With the exception that Reagan’s cowboy attitude was never referred to that way. “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down that wall” sounds much different than ‘The United States prefers that Iraq meet its obligations voluntarily, yet we are prepared for the alternative.’
