My current concern is not impending socialism (although it may not be far off) rather that the climate of fear has given some the feeling they can raid the treasury for friends and cronies. And the stimulus and 'public works' nonsense being considered is just more of the same. POLS at every level are salivating as the gravy train approaches.

It would be nice if the public would wake up to that fact.

Just look how quickly the public followed the campaign focus from the war to the economy. Again I'm reminded of Three Days of the Condor. Robert Redford's character is about to go public with a story. Standing in front of the NYT he is having an argument with Cliff Robertson's character who tells him at one point the public won't care when oil or water or other primal needs are in demand. Won't care how you get it as long as you get it.

Lord,

I hope Stanford is right. A groundswell of public outrage sweeping everyone up for election in 2010 OUT of office would be a tremendous boon to our nation. Follow it up with a similar outing of the next two Senatorial elections and we might see some real change in Washington.

Of course even such a fantastic dream of a result will only begin to eat away slowly at the edges. It will do next to nothing to the massive government bureaucracy that is the entrenched source of despotic rules and regulations the government uses to keep us under their thumb. But it's a start.

Sadly, I think you're right Stanford. Short term needs and short term memory are likely to result in a return to apathy.

Just before the end of the video I believe Barney instructs Kohn to come back with details but I'm not optimistic. What I am optimistic about is a short honeymoon for Obama and the stark realization that the job will be much more difficult than getting elected.

This time, rather than Bush's first term or after the 2006 midterms, I actually think there will be a ground swell of public outrage that will subject ALL politicians to its wrath. We may be reaching the tipping point where the public can no longer remain apathetic. Trouble is, as soon as their basic short term needs are resolved it will be back to apathy as usual.

Pelosi and her ilk are so transparent that you can't see what they're doing. They might as well have covered it over with Harry Potter's cloak of invisibility. All we're left with are the footprints in the snow and mud that tell us about their nefarious plans.
